Subject: [vpFREE] Gambling taxes as an Indiana Resident?
In preparing to move to Indiana, I did some reading on the archives here.
Finding some posts that caused concern regarding taxes, I did look up the
state tax forms, and am now seeking clarity.
If I am reading correctly, losses are not deducted against the wins that
must be reported. Having been burned in the past by the AGI impact a1lone,
this would appear to be motivation to avoid machine jackpots
I have played in Indiana for the past few years, and have had no problem
recovering the state taxes, as a non-resident.
However, since this move wasn't planned earlier this year, I have already
accumulated some W2Gs from Indiana, and other states. I'm guessing that I'll
be on the hook for these, even though they were received prior to becoming a
resident.
If anyone with firsthand knowledge can confirm or correct my understanding,
I'd be grateful. Meanwhile, I'm brushing up on my blackjack, and hoping I
can find nickel or quarter machines.
Appreciate any insights or advice!

Incredibly entertaining series of posts - if you don't write professionally, you should! Thanks for the laughs.

Hey again, Coach
After reading your Easter time trip report to AC, I think old Gary
Loveman would be crazy to send you an invitation to ANYTHING!!!

[vpFREE] Re: AC Trip Report
Hey Coach,
I'm the guy who wrote some time back to say (tongue planted firmly
in cheek) that you are the only one I know who "never, ever, loses".
I just came from your site and the report on the Easter Miracle trip.
You started off by trying to explain that you do have losing sessions
but try to keep them to a minimum. Having written that you then
proceed to relate getting aces with a kicker more times in a day than
I've had in the past ten years, how your wife is able to order up a
royal with a whimsical command to the machine (complete with photo -
attractive lady, by the way), getting dealt aces with kicker and
getting 5 of a kind on Joker.
Yep.............. now I've taken my tongue out of my cheek, and
firmly believe my previous statement. Only question I have now is why
in the world aren't you and Hedy playing $100. machines? Probably
afraid to force too many houses out of business, eh? Then what would
you do for walking around money?

[vpFREE] Re: Quick Quads at Harrah's
Hi Effen:
While I don't think Hedy and I are super efficient at understanding the
optimal strategy for quick quads we do have friends who play this game almost
exclusively and are very proficient at it and we have learned a lot from
them about the proper strategy (i.e holding kickers with trips, breaking up
two pair to hold quick quad trips ... like 6-6-4-2 after a deal of 6-6-4-4-2
... etc.)
The bottom line, however, is that we play QQ very little ... almost as a
break-up-the-monotony kind of thing when we get bored playing DDB or
disheartened by the brutal volatility of the game.
Rarely do we invest more than $100 on QQ. We've even fooled around with the
50-play and 100-play QQ machines in the smoking section near the
Brigantine entrance, but we'll play it at the one-cent or two-cent level. It's
mostly a little diversion for us.
Regards,
CoachVee & Hedy
<Coach,
I see that you are playing some Quick Quads at Harrah's. I know the pay
tables are quite poor on these machines. However, I am even more concerned
about what strategy you are using for these machines.
I did a quick calculation where I used the normal FP JB strategy to play
FP JB quick quads. I found that this chopped off 6.6% from the expected
return. The loss in EV will be much more severe for bonus quad games. On FP
DDB, the return drops from 99% to 92%.
Maybe you are making some of the more obvious strategy changes, but you
are probably getting a very poor return playing QQ unless you are following
optimal strategy, which is very complicated.

I received mine about a week ago, but my host had contacted me before that
to make my reservations. I am a "long-Drive" local about 2 ½ hours away in

Hi Gang:
Hedy and I haven't gotten our Seven Stars Signature Event invitation for
Atlantic City in the mail yet and were wondering if that is the case for a
lot of list members as well.
I know this isn't a big deal for us since we're locals, but it seems as if
the Caesars/Harrah's execs are dragging their feet once again on this
score.
I know if we were coming in from out of town we wouldn't be too happy.
After all, it's less than a month away and airfare prices seem to go up
every
day.
I know Jean Scott, who lives in Vegas, says she got hers recently but we
know of some other friends who hadn't gotten anything yet and the events are
booking up fast.
What's the problem? Why can't CZ give people a lot more lead time on things
like this? People need to make plans. The next one is in Las Vegas in
September. We hope they give us information in a more timely manner for that
one.

Hi.
Do any casino gift shops have the ACG? Specifically, Coast or Southpoint. I
have lots of points there.

Right now I would say the game only covers about 10% of the display. What's strange is where you select what to play such as 50-100 play or single game does cover most of the display. Is there a way to expand the game. I have never used Windows 7 before just XP and the horrible Vista OS.

[vpFREE] LVA Question of the Day - 14 MAY 2012
Q: I have read in various Las Vegas history books about how
the Mob would bury people in the desert. With all the
expansion in the valley over the years, has a Mob buried
body ever been unearthed during construction of houses? If
so, what part of town was the Mob's favorite burial ground?

I take it you are referring to VPW, Video Poker for Winners and not
Winpoker the Dean Zamzow/Bob Dancer program?
You will need to change your screen resolution. I know it is a hassle
to switch back and forth.
START -> CONTROL PANEL -> DISPLAY -> ADJUST RESOLUTION (lower
resolution) -> APPLY
BTW, the old Winpoker and the new Wolf Video Poker scale to full screen
automatically! Thanks to Dean and Jim for their great programming skills.

[vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer Winpoker using Windows 7
Do a right-click on the icon you use to launch Winpoker.
On the bottom of the menu click Properties.
In the next window on top click on the Compatibility tab.
check the box - Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
Click Apply button at the bottom of window.
Click OK.
See if that works.
