[vpFREE] Re: Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

I started to fly Spirit from Portland to Las Vegas and have seen my airfares drop by 50% or more than I pay on SWA.

You just have to pack small and pick and choose what you want. I'm willing to pay their $60 annual club fee if I pay less for seats. I pack small, skip the bag fees and pay $15 each way for their Big seat. I've never sat in one of their regular seats, but if you're 6 feet or taller you'll have a really hard time.

Carry on free used to sell bags that are 16 x 14 x 12 but they might be out of business or gheir demand is just too high. I own one but I actually use a.smaller bag that's built better. Usually they will let me put it above.my seat sinve their is always room.

Spirits policy is as long as you bag will meet their size, then it flies free. A 16 x 14 x 12 bag will NOT fit on their A319 planes. But it still flies free in the overhead bin.

The other benefit is if you buy a big seat you can use the 1st

[vpFREE] Re: Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

I'm from the LA area and I prefer to fly out of Burbank to avoid the LAX traffic. We typically fly Southwest, but they're pricey on the weekends. Weekdays you can fly SW much cheaper. They have several flights a day leaving for Vegas from Burbank. JetBlue flies out of Burbank to Vegas, but they have one flight a day which leaves in the late afternoon. If you are staying in or around the LAX airport area, you'll find Southwest flights cheaper than Burbank and they have several flights a day as well. JetBlue flies out of LAX as well. Hope this helps.

[vpFREE] Re: LVRJ: LVH to get new management

We were there this Sun to Tuesday.
They had ~10 of the electronic dealer machines dead nuts next to the table games. Was told by a worker that they were not getting much action but my casual observation was otherwise. Saw Rich Little and he made a funny joke about having a date with one of the $5 dealers. It was a good show.

On Tuesday they were filming "behind the candelabra" Matt Damon and Michael Douglas. What a production with 100 1960-70's cars in the front of the casino; and lobby, main entrance and roadways closed. Think we saw Michael Douglas in a leisure suit.

The FPVP is still in the sports books. No more booze in VIP. No soft drinks.

I thought the LVH sign looked o.k.
We came in on an offer of $400 free play but were downgraded so that the only food comped was out of the the Coffee shop (Fortuna) and the Pizza/Ice Cream joint. No complaints what-so-ever. I wish them well.

I'd file a police report, if only to make a contemporaneous
declaration that you lost your records. Most casinos are cooperative
in telling me my coin in and coin out for any day I ask them about.

Re: [vpFREE] Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

Their only redeeming quality is that they really push to get you off and on the plane quickly to get an on time departure. Since few people are carrying on rollers they board quickly and since their planes are filthy and rarely cleaned they start boarding as soon as the last person is off the plane.

As others have stated, they charge for everything: carry on bags, checked bags, seats, printing your boarding pass at the airport, nuts, drinks and pay toilets coming soon.

With that said, sometimes the price difference was so significant that I flew spirit. If your bag is 16"X12"X14" you can carry it on without paying a fee. If you print your boarding pass at home shortly after the 24 hour time limit you will almost always get a window or isle seat for 'free' and save the $5 for printing the boarding pass at the airport. Bring your own nuts.

[vpFREE] Re: Coach V Harrah's AC Trip Report

Lost $30K in 2010 chasing 7 star. Started the effort on 9/6 JB Multi-strike at Harrahs Laughlin (crack cocaine of VP while it lasted); Did $400K action then paytables downgraded.

$100K at NSUD in New Orleans (what a City) and then $700K mostly on the FPJB AC Ballys with a little sprinkling on the FPJB at Reno Harrahs. Got slaughtered at AC Ballys. ~4% loss. One 3 day trip lost $10K on $100K action. This stuff happens.

I'd say we got about $10K back in "comps" if you count Spirit airlines and several cruise ship trips as bennys.

In 2011 the 7* bennys were lame. I think they cut way back but also believe it was because we got tied to Ballys in the Harrahs computer. Our biggest mistake was going to AC. Our host (out of Harrahs new england office)pushed hard to do this. Our offers from New Orleans and Reno/Lake Tahoe went way down.

This year haven't been in a Harrah's casino. Moved all our play in Laughlin down the street to Aquarius where they have $1 FPDB progressive; Atlantis in Reno where they have the same instead of Reno Harrahs. Then in vegas there is the LVH (Hilton); Station and Boyd casinos all with FPVP.

We were looking forward to a Harrahs junket to New Orleans that would have been two weeks from now. But trip was cancelled as "not enough interest" but sometimes wonder if it is because we have gone elsewhere.

You can do 7* as a fair bet in New Orleans and Indiana but not in New Jersey. Bob Dancer had an article as to how it was an advantage last year in Vegas even with 9/6 JB. The article involved signficant free play that he called "show up money" and it may not work for him this year.

I can't find the article but have re-read quite a few good stories at:

This could translate to a potential negative(loss) of $50,000 cash on cash out of your pocket per year. Do you get enough comps, cash back and casino perks, etc. to at least break even? Good luck aside, the math always seems to balance out any winning streaks. I am not being critical, just curious.

Re: [vpFREE] Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

Spirit maybe a better airline on the west coast then it is in the east but
as of earlier this week they charge for each and every item , service and
amenity imaginable.

The airline claims that its pricing structure is customer friendly as not
everybody has a carry on bag or luggage or the need for a comfortable seat,
etcetera.

These items and more must, of course, be purchased and increase the price
of the ticket that is advertised, as being very low, but these costs add
up very quickly and steeply. Passengers are enouraged to prepay all such
charges as each of them costs significantly more at the airport. Too bad if
you prepay for two bags and show up with only one...no refunds. Spirit is
also totally unforgiving if you are unable to board the exact flight for
which you have previously paid. No refunds, no credits, no extenuating
circumstances.

Spirit president Ben Baldanza made himself eternally famous by hitting the
"reply all" button while instructing an employee to write a "get lost"
letter to unhappy customers after describing the customer in ribald
terms. The customers shared the snarky letter with the press.

His recent exploits included overcharging returning military for carrying
their duffels. Want more? Google it ... Lots of things that would be funny
if they weren't so sad.
