RE: [vpFREE] Re: Death of the Optimums? Fiesta's separate identity

I've heard the predictions of doom and gloom every year since I moved to Las
Vegas 9 years ago.

No, things are not the same.

No, VP again will not die this year.

It's pretty nasty of you to mock a perfectly valid apprehension. Would
you have, in similar fashion, sneered at someone who, for example, in
2001 said that four years from then, there would be no FPDW at the
Gold Coast or Orleans, which at that point had over 240 such machines?
Or that Stations would be giving comps on THEIR positive video poker
at the rate of .0416 ($24/point?) Or that 9/6 JOB would be all but
extinct on the Strip?

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that the above poster's prediction
will come true, maybe not that soon, but within a couple of years. And
whether or not it actually does come to pass, it's sure as hell
PLAUSIBLE!

RE: [vpFREE] Coast vs Stations Casinos

George Lee wrote: This is a golden opportunity for Coast Casinos to

Greedy? I think Station is being generous. They have effectively created
a cashback slot club from a comp only slot club. This is GREAT news as
many players find their stash of Station points to be slightly better
than useless. Many Optimum Play machine players had more points than
they knew what to do with. In my opinion, getting cash at half the
previous rate is better than having the full amount be essentially
useless.

For those players who understand the opportunities of playing larger
denomination machines, this is a HUGE dividend. Overall, this combined
change will create a LOT more play at Station because it's a much more
generous slot club than it was before. The increased play by
higher-denomination advantage players will more than make up for the
diminished play of lower-denomination advantage players.

It would surprise me greatly if Coast saw this as a "golden opportunity
to sweeten their offerings". More likely they see it as an opportunity
to reduce cashback on the 100% machines without a loss in business. It
wouldn't surprise me if Coast moved from $2 a point to $3 a point on
these machines. Businesswise they would be rather remiss if they didn't.

People here keep harping on the 0.04% comp rate. Presumably everybody
here can organize their time well enough to only play on the frequent 5x
point days. And instead of comps, they can now get cash. This is
WONDERFUL. The Fertitta brothers should be thanked profusely.

Each of my Macys receipts shows the remaining card balance and an
expiration date of 7/31/09. So, I simply mark that date periodically in
my organizer to remind me that the money is there. I am sure that even
those with a high card value of $5000 would still be able to spend that
fairly easily considering the furniture, apparel and jewelry available
in most Macys. On prior Neiman-Marcus shopping sprees at Paris guests
had to spend $4000 in one day by the close of business. Nobody seemed
to have a problem. And the Neiman employees on commission had a field
day.

It is a lot worse than that in Nevada. After a period of non use the state of Nevada claims the balance on the card and I believe the issuing store gets to keep 15% of the balance. All terms have to be disclosed on the card. If it doesn't say there is
an expiration date or service charge then the card is good indefinitely.
I have used Macy's cards from several years ago. I have never
encountered an expired card or a service charge.

RE: [vpFREE] Re: New Orleans Junket

And you do likwise, Harry. No junket, but I will probably be back in April
for the French Quarter Festival. FYI, your Drago's oyster can be had for TR
comps. Check out the Harrah's NO site for a full list of "partner"
restaurants.

I will suggest this -- upon your return, post an extensive trip
report. (We're headed there last weekend of March on a similar junket ;)

Correllation does not equal causation. There is no more reason to
believe that these events are related than that the loss in casino
revenue was caused by my recent purchase of an IPod (EVEN

I would suspect, Bob, that your own opinions are somewhat biased on
the subject, as the existence of decent VP has been your raison d'etre
for some time. If VP becomes not worth playing, then....

Anyone familiar with the state of VP in Vegas over the last few years
can plausibly extrapolate the drastic reduction in the amount and
quantity of decent VP to its imminent disappearance altogether,
especially since it seems to have been proven that even "locals'"
casinos don't have to offer decent gambling in order to be patronized.
