[vpFREE] Re: Questions about Ellis Island

I would suggest vpFree readers do a Google search for: "Karen Dorsey" Ellis

The search results will return the contact details for Ms. Dorsey who is reported to be the Controller by the LeadFerret website at: https://leadferret.com/directory/person/karen-dorsey/22565062 https://leadferret.com/directory/person/karen-dorsey/22565062.

Or, Ms Dorsey may be the president of Ellis Island as reported in this Las Vegas Review Journal article:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/norm-clarke/area-waitress-wins-karaoke-contest http://www.reviewjournal.com/norm-clarke/area-waitress-wins-karaoke-contest

I would encourage players to make your opinions clearly heard by the Ellis Island management. I think a telephone conversation or letter is most effective. Another avenue is to complete the satisfaction survey for Ellis at: http://www.ellisislandsurvey.com/ http://www.ellisislandsurvey.com/

G'luck all,

When your posts are read by us commoners using non-Microsoft programs, what you perceive as single or double quotation marks, are displayed as white question marks on a black background (at least in my web browser).

A little research yielded the following keyboard shortcut that will toggle the smart quote setting:

But rewards will pop up during your play? Based on some system known only to the casino, depending on machine theo and perhaps other factors like actual win/loss amounts, time played, the color of your hair?

Bounce-back based on multiple factors is quite common EI was a rare example in the past by offering BB based strictly on coin-in. I can see that they might want to change that. But to have no set schedule for your point redemption seems very extreme and very player unfriendly. Many casino vary point worth by distinguishing between slots and VP, or by stickering machines with the better games and clearly showing the reduced value of the points. But it seems EI has gone to a super-secret system.

Anyone have more insight or additional information into this?

Agreed. I bank with Union Bank in California and their limit is $1,000. I was considering moving my business to another bank, but four banks in a row all told me $500 was the max they would do (and seemed surprised that bothered me).

Exactly right. The rate drops from 0.325 to 0.1625. :(

If you can get free travelers checks definitely this is the way to go. Don't forget ATM cards can get lost, stolen or demagnetized.

Re: [vpFREE] Questions about Ellis Island

This is the first time I have heard of Ellis Island changing the point redemption rate.

What the mystery is now is the bounceback. Based on the theo (or actual?) of your recent play, you will receive a postcard for "Passport Perks" showing the amount of freeplay that you have earned and the dates you can get it - usually a week.

Apparently video poker has very low theo. I haven't received any Passport Perks since they started the new system early February although I played $5000 on the Quick Quads machines and then another day $1100 on 98.91% Deuces early in February.

[vpFREE] jacks or better, quads or less, short term strategy

Just to flesh this out a bit, take the wizard's strategy generator, or your strategy generator of choice, and set the royal and straight flush to zero. The result is Jacks or better, quads or less, short term strategy, and it tells you that the top cycle is 423 (quads), the average return is 97.5%, and the per hand variance is 3.5 . You have to have a sample size, I suggest 5x the top cycle, so that's 5x423 = 2115. Now you can figure a percent standard deviation for that sample size: sqrt(variance x 2115)/2115 = 4.1% . So, for a sample size of 2115, you expect results somewhere in the region of 93.4% to 101.6%, 68% of the time. You might occasionally see outliers over 3sd, or less than 85.2% or more than 109.8%, in addition to any royals or straight flushes you may incidentally hit, in theory you could even lose every single one of those 2115 bets, but that's why they call it gambling. Now you go play in the real casino environment on real casino machines and start recording your results for sessions of 2115 hands, if you hit any straight flushes or royals, those are extras that go straight into your pocket or purse or wherever you hide your money (I don't want to know) and don't count for the session results. Same with any bounceback or swag or show-up money you get from the casino, those don't count for your session results, that's all extra gravy that hopefully you are getting lots of to help fund your gambling habit. You should start to see a trend through the noise, most likely you're not quite getting the computer optimal results, maybe even substantially less. That's how casinos make their money. If playing 2115 hands is too boring for you, take up a low variance game like blackjack, roulette, or craps, or just buy lottery or keno or sports bet tickets when there's an overlay, or no overlay, hey, gambler's choice.

[vpFREE] Re: Ultimate X Bankroll/Loss

From what I read, Ultimate X has a very tricky play strategy...even for
JoB. Trying to pull in those multipliers (especially the full house 12x'er)
alters the play quite a bit. A lot of practice needed to get it down
correctly.
You may want to try Super Times Pay which has the same play strategy as
normal JoB. I read that even with the cost of 6 units per line the random
multiplier makes the game > 99.54%.
Or, you may want to try Multi Strike. 9/6 JoB Multi Strike has a
return of 99.79%. It can be found at the Gold Coast. Like Ultimate X, this
game also has a different strategy from normal JoB so it has a learning
curve.
So many games out there!!!

[vpFREE] Proposed IRS changes concerning casinos/gamblers

Since the casinos are against the $600 W2-G issue and will lobby hard to oppose it, I figure it is a waste of time for what would be just a few individual customer complaints. I'm leaving the fight to the casinos.

And I am not going to worry/complain or be excited about what are now JUST proposals. Part of the proposals will be good – recognizing "sessions." Other parts maybe not so good. Time enough to gripe or rejoice when the regulations become final.

Is there any place the public can send comments to this proposal? It sucks, but the IRS is probably worried that it will lose out on revenue.

[vpFREE] Four Queens Coin-in per point increase

The Four Queens increased the coin-in to earn one point from $8 to $16 on the 10/7 DB games. This increase applies to both the $1 games and the $.25 progressives.

Doubling the coin-in requirements reduces the cash back and comp earnings by half.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: LVRJ: IRS suggests dropping threshold from $1,200 to $600

As discussed in the article, implemented into the current framework, it makes a big difference to both the casino and higher denom players who are likely to trigger such paperwork frequently.

Given a relatively safe presumption that there are relatively few gamblers who come away with net winnings from the casinos each year, the real object would seem to be to inflict additional inappropriate taxation on those who don't file a Sched A; for whom a 1099 DOES change their tax liability, irrespective of offsetting losses.

However, if the intention is to implement the reduced threshold into the new reporting framework proposed at the same time (reporting daily net casino wins rather than individual jackpots), then the lower threshold is more palatable and sensible (even though it still hurts non-Sched A filers).

---In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, <mike@...> wrote :

Doesn't make a whole lot of difference except to the folks who have to

However, as a freelancer, if I do work for a business and they pay me
more than $600, they have to send me a 1099.
