[vpFREE] Royal Flushes

 

I don't keep track of a lot of things – I don't really know how to do a proper spreadsheet – everyone knows by now that I am a word person as opposed to a number person.  But I have a hard-copy notebook where I have been keeping track of our royals since our first on December 31, 1991.  I used to be more detailed – but since multi-line appeared, I just noted the amount and the casino.  There have been dealt ones, once on 100-play, nickel ones and $5 ones, but I don't know the exact details of each.  But I do know that the last one we got – on October 31, 2016 – was #1048!!!!

No one said cheating is impossible or doesn't happen. What people said is that that one reported result is ridiculously far from the incontrovertible proof of cheating that you were proclaiming it to be.

I realize I'm an old guy, but believe me cheating did (does) go on. I have witnessed a second being dealt in a live poker game. I was told reliably that a front loader was cheated. When the casino owner was told that there was a front loader was in his blackjack game he decided to "cheat the cheater" (even though front loading is not cheating) he let the front loader continue playing and have accurate card information. The front loader lost a ton of money. Unbeknownst to him the dealer was peeking and dealing seconds. Even though cheating on video poker is rare (in Nevada) it always pays to be on the lookout. If you are a few dealt royals short it could be an honest statistical shortfall or you might be cheated. Plus in many places like Washington and Oklahoma cheating is 100% legal and too bad for you. I understand the math perfectly (after all I was a math major in college), I just wish that others that post would be open to the possibility of cheating. As has been said "If you don't learn from history you're bound to repeat it".

I respectively disagree --- at least in part

For those who play Multi-line games, your short term and long term results are definitely affected by dealt royals, and to a lesser extent on dealt aces and deuces --- depending on the game

If you play 2,000,000 hands lifetime on single line --- you'll get 'about' 50 royals. A large percentage of us will end up between 45-55 royals. (Not hard to figure out more precisely using the binomial theorem --- but I'm using my cellphone and don't have that info at my fingertips)

Playing that many hands on Multi-line games lifetime, you'll get 'about' 3 dealt royals --- but you're an underdog to get exactly 3.

Assuming Ten Play or larger, one or two Dealt royals above or below expectation makes a BIG difference on your lifetime score

I remembered the 649 part of the dealt royal number but not the 3 least significant digits. It didn't really matter for the point I was trying to make but you are correct in that if I rounded, I should have rounded to 1 in 650,000.


The point I was trying to make is that tracking a very rare event and trying to make some determination about your results from it is probably a waste of time. And more importantly, the total number of a particular hand is what is important and not where they came from.


I have had 2,000 hand single line sessions of Double Bonus where I have received more 4 of a kinds from holding a pair than from holding 3 of a kind. What does that tell me about my results or fairness of the game or anything else? Not a whole lot.


Dealt hands on multi line machines are great but getting deuces dealt once on a 5 play deuces wild game in 5 hours counts the same as getting deuces on one line 5 different times in that 5 hours. The dealt royals are noticeable due their rareness and large payout but I don't think you can draw much of a conclusion about your play based on how many dealt royals you have received. Especially if you don't track the stats of your sessions.
