Re: [vpFREE] How far do you go with EV?

I'm notorious for making bad bets when the upside is very likely but
the downside is much greater. To save a little time, I risk missing
boats and airplanes. To get a little cheaper gas, I risk running out.
Making good bets in gambling is easier because they're more calculable
than in areas where judgment is involved.

I figure if I bend down to pick up a dime 1,000 times over the long-term, I will most certainly throw out my back at least once doing so. $100 is far outweighed by the suffering of one such incident. So a dime on the floor represents significant negative EV for me.

[vpFREE] RE: How far do you go with EV?

Interesting topic, but I have been doing this type of cost/benefit analysis long before I discovered video poker or it discovered me.

Re: [vpFREE] How far do you go with EV?

Perhaps it is not doing things that has put you in such a condition to begin with. I note that my back issues are always significantly reduced, if not disappeared, if I am active, doing things, exercising and or stretching. The times when my back issues act up are when I am sitting for extended periods of time and or inactive. Perhaps something to add in and consider in your "EV" calculation. Not doing such an activity may have contributed to your current problem via addition (pain) by subtraction (lack of activity). Good luck with this and good health to you.

Re: [vpFREE] Fantasy Springs Casino: "100% Payback Weekend" [Nov 30-Dec 1]

I guess we will have to read the complete rules (which may or may not be available ahead of time) to see if video poker is eligible and if any machines are excluded.

Here's the Wizard of Odds page with good information about vp loss rebates. It shows the optimum quitting point for various games based on the max rebate.

[vpFREE] My Love Hate Relationship with the Palms

Just got back from three nights in Vegas. We were supposed to stay two nights at the Palms and one night downtown at the GN. When we got there on Monday afternoon as soon as I put my card in it said "Welcome Guest". I thought I'd lost all my points. I went pissed to the Club and saw a sign saying the computers were down and a lady said I still had the points. Well, i started playing and after a while we decided to cash out and go to dinner at the 24/7 cafe. It required a person to come pay us and then she put the machine "Out of Service". I noticed that every time someone was paid they put the machine out of order.

At check in they refused the 50% Pallms coupon so I decided to use it at the cafe on their prime rib. The lady wouldn't take it there either as she said the Prime rib was a special and couldn't be used.
We went back to the FPDW bank and noticed all the machines were OOS. There was nothing to play that was full pay. I went to the room and complained to the Hotel and asked to be comped because all the machines were down. She said no comp would be offered and put me through to gaming and the gaming mgr said there were machines still available. I explained to him what full pay was and he was clueless. I called GN and they said they would extend the rate I had and we chose to check out early. At check out they did take the coupon.
I tried the $20 trick upgrade at checkin at the Palms to no avail.
I think I'm through with the Palms as it seemed no one was concerned about your happiness.
The Red Rock sent me free rooms for December, but so far nothing for Jan when we are coming again.
I hit Dueces once, but never drew on 4 to a Royal and the drought continues since 1995.

I'm normally a quarter VP player.
I know Dueces Wild pretty well, so I was thinking it made
sense for me to go with the NSUD or LDW here and play
for the weekend until I lose $1500 or hit a Royal.

Non-hypothetical right here.  I'll report back if there is
any good (or bad news).

[vpFREE] RE: Aruba Cruise

There's high roller junkets to Aruba by plane. Used to have decent VP and no W-2's. Lot's of good touristy stuff.

I am interested in visiting Aruba via a cruise.

Is there any casino group that offers a discounted or free cruise to this
location. I am aware of the fact that Norwegian Cruise Lines has a cruise
with a stop in Aruba, but that cruise does not qualify for any of the "free"
(except port fees and taxes) cruises offered by Harrahs.

Which cruise line would be recommended if I purchase a cruise to Aruba
without casino help?

Thanks

Bob

RE: RE: RE: [vpFREE] RE: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 19 NOV 2013

I've never played that promo at RV,   but  they seem more than willing to break the rules

I doubt this is true in NJ.  Revel is currently having a promotion where you can swipe and win a prize.  There are always 5 prizes to pick from, and the prizes are always the same:

$5 slot play

$10,000 slot play

50 bonus drawing entries

Tote bag

Something else (sorry I forgot)

I find it hard to believe I have a 1 in 5 shot at $10,000 slot play and that I miss it every time.

I can't speak about NJ. You may well be correct.

When I was writing the article I was thinking about the kiosk drawings run by the Coast Casinos (part of B Connected) in Las Vegas.  There players regularly get about the same amount (perhaps $3, perhaps $5, perhaps $25, etc., depending on their play level) and once they've selected it always shows $250 or $500 prizes were available. I've seen these kiosk games at both Sam's Town and Gold Coast. I haven't experienced them elsewhere.
