Sad news of AC's Taj Mahal closing on several levels. When I lived in Philadelphia I would go to Atlantic City all the time and often stayed over and played at the Taj. When I worked my way up to higher tier levels I would eat in the high roller buffet, which was always great. You never knew what sort of room you would get. One time I Arrived late in the evening and found myself in a super plush high roller suite with mirrors all over the walls and ceilings and trim that looked like real gold. I'd left my hubby at home, so it seemed ironic to have one of those luxury suites on this trip, with mirrors even above the bed.
So sad for all the employees to lose their jobs. So sad for Atlantic City.
I always felt that AC made a major mistake by limiting entertainment to weekends and never making itself a true destination resort like Vegas. NJ also failed to build in a big senior retirement population around the city with Senior apartments, a Sun City type development, and other activities. When gambling came to Philadelphia it spelled the end to the day trippers who flocked to AC in buses.
Sorry to see you go Taj, but the memories remain.
