Re: [vpFREE] Re: Hard Rock Hollywood Florida

Frank,
I told them they were the only casino reducing the levels of the player club. That they don't reward players based on play and that an Elite card wasn't worth the plastic it was printed on. Before I cut down my play I probably had 20X the play required for Elite and received no benefits. That they operated the property like a hotel not a casino. The key to a good casino is for you to feel good even if you loose and they nickel and dime you at every point and try to turn every area of the casino into a profit center. They said there are positive changes coming but no details or promises. I told them I hate hot seat promos, $20 -$25 for valet is outrageous. They didn't know about the hotel sweeping points and the issue with the food court not accepting points in due to the fact that the HR does not own the food court and there is a legal dispute going on. I will play a bit more now that I have X.

Joel: what did you tell them last night? How many other players were there? This is a positive development. Congrats.

Re: [vpFREE] Best '$10 coin-in for 1 TC' game at Horseshoe Baltimore?

I checked last night to see what I could find on the 1st floor at the Horseshoe Baltimore among the $10/point video poker. The best appears to be the Tap House Poker that was mentioned in an earlier post. This is 3 or 5 play 9/5 DDB base game (97.87%) with a bonus feature (additional 5 coins bet per deal) that raises the return on this version to 98.33%. It's available on some of the B'More Beers bartops at .25, .50 or $1.
You can read more about it at the Wizard of Odds site (just google Tap House Poker). You'll see there that the added return from the bonus game depends on which setting is used for the average multiplier for dealt straights. I had 7 of these and the overall average was a little over 5 so I'm pretty comfortable saying that this is the 98.33% return game.
The only other 98% games I found were $1/$2/$5 single line 7/5 Bonus Poker (98.01%) on Game Makers in front of the Twisted Yard Bar. Some of these are .25/.50/$1/$2 and others are $1/$2/$5. In all cases the pay table is shorted below $1.
There are a couple of progressive banks (one at .25 and one at $1) but the base games were so poor it would take a high progressive to get over 98%.

[vpFREE] Re: Fwd: Rio carnival buffet

Just before they ended the Mardi Gras show I was there and saw the buffet was like $44. Grossly overpriced.

[vpFREE] Rio -- horrible music

I used to think the Palms had the worst music in Vegas. Well, no longer....the Rio definitely has the worst. First the overhead Muzak is really loud and bad. I thought of putting on my headphones and iPod, but realized the muzak was so loud that wouldn't work, so I suffered with it.

But things got incredibly cacophonous after about 7 PM when the blackjack party pit started. As skimpily clad ladies gyrate/bump and grind inside the pit, incredibly loud and even worse music starts playing in the pit. But they don't turn off the muzac so now you have 2 different pieces of music playing at the same time which clash against each other. I decided to move from an area in front of the pit into the high roller room, thinking it would be quieter. It was, slightly, but the two strains of music could still be heard clashing against each other in the distance causing a garbled cacophony of sound. But wait there's more, because every once in a while the bevertainers got up to sing their two minute opus in different spots in the casino, so that clashed against the other ongoing muzak and pit "music". And then the bar to the left of the high roller area begin playing country music (possibly a live singer? I didn't get up to see).

I have to assume that all this music and the gyrating ladies are intended to distract gamblers. But with the bad VP pay tables and Poor blackjack rules, and poor payouts, the Rio really doesn't need to Gouge the poor players even more. Besides which, the cacophony of clashing music was so bad that it really must drive most gamblers away rather than entice them to stay. I have an incredible ability to ignore most distractions and sit and gamble for hours at a time (possibly do to a childhood spent watching TV and reading books at the same time, such that I can ignore background noise that would drive most rational people away). But eventually the Rio proved too much even for me and I had to leave. I now sit at home enjoying blissfully the total quiet (which I hope is not due to the fact that I have lost my hearing during my sojourn at the Rio Hotel).

Also if you have a coupon and you are local they will not give you the local discount and the coupon both together anymore.
