[vpFREE] Southpoint Labor Day Promo????

I received a press release that they were having 5x/2x multipliers on Labor Day.  Then a revised e-mail omitting that information.

Anyone have up-to-date official info?  Scot?

[vpFREE] Confused by Boyd

I am totally confused by the new system... Now that we have cut way back on our playing due to years of losses (and not wanting to lose all my money...), hubby and I are lowly Sapphire. I was at GC today and got new card, still Sapphire. Did those of you who lost points also lose cash out $, or just "tier" points? I only had a few dollars of cash back so didn't even bother looking. But I played about an hour on usual nickel Ultimate x 3 play (I used to play at $1 level....sad...but much safer....)...and I noticed no points accumulating on my or other people's machines. I don't know if this is the new system still not being up or what. Do the machines now show both accumulated tier and accumulated points? I think it is very confusing to have two different systems for people....though Caesars does so with Reward Credits and Tier points, and shows both on their machines as you play. And even more confusing if you have no idea of the amount of VP needed to get a tier point, it varies by game played, average bet, and length of play...?????

Assuming you play slots where $5 in = 1 tier point, for a free buffet on Tues you need $100 play. But if you are Sapphire you get 2x tier points, apparently. Does that mean $50 play = a free buffet? Not too bad. But for VP it could be? anything???

Seems wacky to me, and so much easier if they just did what everyone else seems to have done, make VP tier points at $10 (double slot play).

Table games have the same unknown quality to tier points.

Seems like a lot of average joes who don't really notice new rules and subtle differences will eventually notice a reduced amount of points and comps when playing VP (and tables?) and start asking questions and find their way to other properties in Vegas.

It isn't as though Boyd has a monopoly here, plenty of other places to play.....

What's that saying about showing displeasure with your feet....Boyd may have made a major boo boo with such a major change.

Re: [vpFREE] Boyd tier conversion

It's funny, the more I continue to read the discussions on how to handle this situation, the more confident I am in my simple strategy...never play at Boyd again!  But it will be certainly be weird to walk through the Gold Coast and not play at all when I use up my last comp room offers.

Re: [vpFREE] Boyd tier conversion

Your strategy is what my husband and I discussed tonight at dinner .

We fly in four times a year (at a cost of 850-1000dollars) then rent a car ( but I check every day to see if the rate decreases) we fly Tuesday to Tuesday. So my husband and I arrive on a Tuesday and therefore are not eligible for the multipliers as we would start out as a ruby.  Our first trip of four would be a trip where we accumulate no B connected points unless we play slots and achieve sapphire faster than trying to do so through video poker.  This defeats the reason we come to Vegas. As a result playing at a Boyd property isn't worth it.
We are emerald now and will miss the 3x points that emerald players received. We also enjoyed the  discount at the breakfast and lunch buffet but even that has been slashed thus chewing up our points faster.

So it's time to jump  ship and look for a casino that treats out of town visitors better.

If you're trying to get from Ruby to Sapphire you *might* be better off playing high denomination slots.   Since slot theos assume 10% there are many basic $5 slots that have an actual return in the 95% range.   I'd suggest $5 Double Diamond or $5 Triple Diamond classic 3 reel machines.     Once you reach $751 in theo then switch back to Video Poker and play only on the various 11x multiplier days.  I would ignore tier points completely once you make Sapphire....you're never going to get to Emerald.

The major issue with the new Boyd Tier point countdowns is that they assume everyone is playing perfect optimum strategy.   Very few people,  even many of the members here, play perfectly.   We all make errors of some sort including the occasional catastrophic "button-errors" where we think we hold 3 of a kind and only wind up holding a pair or some such error costing us $30 or $40 in a single hand.   The typical 8/5 Bonus Poker game holds around 2% yet Boyd is assuming a hold of 0.83%.   Forgetting advantage players,  the collective global group of VP players are getting completely screwed over.     Nobody should play Boyd anytime they don't have a multiplier until they bring these point countdowns in line with reality.

In the meantime, you're probably better off playing $5 slots....than playing a 99.99% video poker game.
