RE: [vpFREE] Re:
[vpFREE] Seeing the sights on the strip
Several of us will be on the strip this new Years Eve at Harrahs. (Stupid, I know. But hey, we are out of towners) Do the casinos shut their doors for a certain length of time on the eve? To not let in the fallen ones for an amount of time close to midnight or after?
What is there to see on the strip within a 36 hour window. I have heard that the Bellagio fountains have some new songs. Is there a conservatory there also? Need some free sights to see as there are very few VP plays in the area. Or our there some? (Where?) Need casinos that have easy room comps with good VP plays. We do like 'M', 'Red Rock'.
Thanks

About this time of year I like to blow the dust of my old Holiday themed
poem and post it. Feel free to contribute stanzas, it's been growing every
year. All the nicknames refer to real pros and any similarity to persons
living or dead is purely intentional.

The Night Before New Year
'Twas the night before New Years, and all through the house,
The Jackpots were jumping, like a small frightened mouse.
The locals had got some, the tourists had more,
While pros silently waited, alone by the door.
A progressive was rising, almost a play,
Decisions were made, should I go? Should I stay?
Jean Scott was there, feeding her palate,
Free food, of course, that's the only way she'll have it.
The midnight marauder was there with a scowl,
As were Snapper and Taper, alert on the prowl.
Not So Smart Art said, "When's it a play?
Snapper snapped back, "If you can't do the math...please just go away!"
Well the Pumpers were pumping, the Thumpers were thumping,
The Winners were jumping, and the Losers were slumping.
The Slot Hosts were comping, the free drinks were flowing,
The free food was coming, all faces were glowing.
White Shirt Will was waiting for none,
With superior bankroll, he'd started the fun!
Downtime was there, heeding his own inner band,
Silently scheming, how to get action, without playing a hand?
Then from out of the shadows along came The Bane,
But he decided to pass on the play, all the same.
The pros all wondered, "Well, where does he go?"
Is there something else better, about which we don't know?
The Bane said, "I'll tell you, just don't think me daft,
I've got to go home, to play some Starcraft."
The Bucket Brothers, as always, were quick to the draw,
Securing four seats 'cause they couldn't get all.
Their two-machine style had caused some alarm,
"How the hell do they do that?" was heard from afar.
Playing so fast, some people will stare,
But when the jackpot gets up...you just couldn't care.
Soon the bank was locked up, only one seat was live,
Played by a tourist, who didn't rate to survive.
Had Tuna seen fit to deem to been there,
He'd have bellowed and blustered and shouted, "unfair"
If no one now seated will give up their seat,
then to theses peasants and rabble, I say, "no one gets meat"
For my delicate ego and sanity's sake,
Through them all off the bank, and "let them eat cake".
At first all was friendly, with talking quite proud,
Strategy questions were frequent and answered out loud.
Do you hold a seven with Jack ten suited? No one could answer,
Too bad we weren't sitting by good old Bob Dancer.
He'd passed by the bank, with nary a word,
His bankroll so large, he thought dollars absurd.
Then it ran, and it ran, all through the night,
Bankrolls were stretched, as on went the fight.
Sorry were all of those that had stayed.
Who would hit it? Some side-bets were made.
Then a change girl said, "Someone will hit this, I just don't know who!"
And we laughed, and we laughed, till our faces turned blue.
It went, and it went, still on through the night,
Until finally around the-dawns-early-light,
Lucky Pierre stood up and turned green,
His stare boded ill for all that had seen
"Someone has got it," He said with a frown,
"And I don't think they're local, they're from far out of town."
"Ah... Snapped of by the tourist after all that hard work,"
We said with a laugh and a downtrodden smirk.
"But that's how it goes, when progressives you play,
Not to worry... tomorrow's a new day.

[vpFREE] Gambling with an Edge --- Thursday December 22
Our guest tomorrow night will be Don Johnson. Not the Miami Vice actor, but the guy who talked three Atlantic City casinos into giving him special deals at blackjack that ended up with him being a $15 million winner. For many of us trying to beat the house, Don Johnson is a real hero. Listen from 7-8 pm on 1230 AM in Las Vegas or on www.klav1230am.com from anywhere. On Fridays, the show is archived on bobdancer.com. The show is also set up at a podcast. You can sign up for free with the Apple Store and get the podcasts automatically delivered to your device. Bob

[vpFREE] A Tough Year for Royals
I just want to throw out my exceptionally lousy stats for the last year, perhaps to see if anyone can top them, perhaps just to let the newbies see just how long the streaks can get...
I hit my first $5 royal of the year last Saturday. The previous one was December 10, 2010. Since I don't plan to play much more this year, I'm closing the books, considering that interval a year, and reporting the stats now.
Between Dec 10, 2010 and Dec 17, 2011, I played 548,758 hands with a total of 3 royals. I had a $1 royal on May 7, a $2 royal May 8 and a $5 royal on Dec 17. That is an average of 182,919 hands per royal, playing predominantly Jacks or Better. Given that number of hands, one might expect over 13 royals.
In previous years, my stats have looked more normal. From the point that I started playing standard games instead of progressives, through the end of 2010, I had 115 royals in 4,949,418 hands for an average of 43,038 hands per royal. Since there was a period when most of my play was Deuces Wild, this average is not too far above my expectations.
As far as droughts go, until this year, I've had only had two 5-cycle droughts before, both in 2007. The first was 205,341 hands; the second was 236,754 hands. This year I had one interval of 235,814 hands and one (the one that just terminated) of 288,114 hands.
In terms of video poker, it has truly been a miserable year for me. Can anyone top over half a million hands with only 3 royals?
* I have something of a bookkeeping technicality to add: I only list taxable royals for games of 1-9 lines in my royal log. Those are the royals that really impact my bankroll. A nickel royal on a 100-play machine ($200) is just another hand in my opinion, so I segregate what I call n-play games to a different universe. For this year, I have played 354,764 hands of n-play VP with 8 royals. That's an average of 44,346 hands per royal. This is close enough to expectations to consider normal, but of course these payouts did nothing to repair the bankroll damage done by months of losses on substantial $5, $10 and $25 play without royals.
** I played quite a bit less video poker this year than I have in the past. I hope next year affords the opportunity to play more.

[vpFREE] Be careful if ordering from ShopLVA
Be careful if you are buying Optimum Video Poker on ShopLVA. Most of
their System Requirements are leftover from version 2. OpVP 3 will NOT
run on Mac OS 8.5.1 or with an 800x600 display. It requires at least OS
X 10.2 and 1024x768 display. OpVP 2 is still available if you want
something that will run on a Classic Mac, but it does not have the
extensive trainer features of version 3.
I have notified LVA three times about the errors, but they ignore the
corrections.
