What is objectionable is the tax is being imposed by unelected bureaucrats who don't have to face voter's wrath.

No...I think we want the state to do is stop cutting services and find a
more dependable form of revenue beyond the unpredictable gaming win.

I just returned from The Atlantis Sunday night. I didn't check every machine because I wasn't there to gamble. But what I did see was 6/5/3/1/1 Bonus Poker at the quarter level. If you are looking to gamble, there plenty of 3/2 blackjack games.
The casino is crawling with 18 year olds, because the gambling and drinking age is 18.

---Ok, I'll chime in on this one. Since I'm an old dad with a young son,
parenting alone, and I live and work in LV, and a good part of my work
involves casinos, my son is with me quite often, since a very young tot!
Now, of course he's not in the casino for anything gambling related, but we
go to many shows and concerts, and we certainly enjoy the pools and
restaurants! We often bring friends and they ice skate and we go to movies
and Kid's Tyme and Kid's Quest and bowling! They all love walking Fremont
street, the live music, dancing (we just went a week or so ago to see
America's Best Dance Crew Electrolytes perform for the opening of the Hip
Hop Internationals!) street performers and light shows. And walking the
Strip and places like the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus. He knows if he
lived anywhere else in the world he'd never see entertainment, shows and
concerts like he does here and we have a great time hanging out together.
Other times, he stays home with an adult or goes to a friend's house. I see
worse behavior in the schools here than in the casinos!

This tangentially touches on what I have found missing in this thread: Any venue can be made an "inappropriate venue" through bad parenting.
Jean Scott has described how she's taken advantage of casino amenities to entertain her extended family and I think rightfully demonstrates that there's definite "family value" to be found in the casino environment.
But it should go without saying that appropriate parental supervision and judgment is a prerequisite at all times. Failing that, then it's a certainty "worst case" scenarios will develop.
Personally, if I had children, I wouldn't bring them anywhere near a casino until they were at least age 12. Quite frankly, I'd prefer to shelter them from some of the worst behavior on parade until such time as I'm sure they can discern for themselves what's appropriate and what's foolhardy in adult behavior.

Re: [vpFREE] Children in Casinos
Jean,(and others)
I can appreciate your very thoughtful, reasoned discussion on this issue. But I can at least partially understand where some of the visceral objections come from. Until you've seen a just-barely older than toddler sitting alone on the steps of a casino entrance (very frequent occurrence at the Taj Mahal in AC back when we were still going there) or seen an infant in a stroller being wheeled around a casino at 2AM (hello, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods)it might not hit home quite as vividly.
Because this is a VP forum, and I can only assume that the participants have no particular objection to gambling & casinos in general, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and think that they may be coming from the child-abuse angle, not the loving grandparent availing themselves and their grandkids of the amenities.
Even though I have taken my grandkids to a casino in the past it was merely an inexpensive base to take in a variety of family, especially kid-friendly, attractions, like Mystic Seaport & Mystic Aquarium. But I did instinctively react rather strongly to the suggestion of a 9 month-old at a casino because of some of the things I have witnessed in the past.

Yes pappy, and good to hear from you! Still going strong but with different goals now that age is a factor. We're retired from just about everything as full time RVers and it's been our best decision ever. We base in Pahrump but travel in the summers.
Hope all is well with you!

[vpFREE] Re: X VP.......RANT........HOTEL EXTRA CHARGE.....
It's them, not you.
The Fertitta empire seems to have lost interest in Station Casinos and decided hotels are not an important part of revenue.
Times are good for them, so they don't really need the hotel business.
