The WHO calculates 3.4 death rate.  Far above the flu rates.  Just the facts.  Much higher among 70+and immunity impaired.

if you have or want to have a flight on SWA between now and june 3, be sure to check the rates. they just took a drop yesterday that saved my wife 50%.. since SWA allows you to keep a credit if you cancel, now's a good time to book or re-book

Frankly, I'm less than pleased that there's a suggestion that there has been panic or hype to any extent.

Anyone who doesn't have at least modest heightened concern vs that assigned to a typical flu season clearly is out of touch with the established facts (even if they involve some degree of uncertainty).  But "heightened concern" doesn't translate to "panic" or "hype".  (And, to the extent that may reasonably characterize those in some quarters, I don't find it difficult at all to ignore them ... fools do what fools do).

What we do know is that if you catch CV, the mortality rate you're facing is higher than a typical flu.  For someone who's relatively healthy (and young), the difference could be relatively modest .... yet significant, based upon reports to date.  Speaking as a 60-yr old man who's dealt with a couple of severe bouts of pneumonia in my lifetime, I'm definitely looking to err on the side of caution this year.

As far as this thread, which I initiated, the purpose was specifically to sound out what might be reasonable precautions vs those which are clearly excessive.  To the extent that there's been constructive discussion, I find it quite valuable and I hope members continue to chime in.

Obviously masks are in vogue lately.  Until US incidence spikes up a bit, I'm inclined to forego that precaution -- guess I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this would be "overkill" for now and focusing my attention on limiting surface contact.  But I guess I'll keep a mask at the ready in the event that someone is actively coughing (it seems impossible to avoid "smoker's hack" in the casino).

I look to completely avoid buffets.  (And with at least one LV confirmed case today, I would think casinos would find it most prudent to shut down buffets until this risk has mostly passed.)  That's not to say that full service restaurants are sterile environments ... but at least I look for some daily screening of workers who'll come in touch with my food.

I'm opening discussion with an intent that there be no alarmist posts; just looking for some thoughtful and reasoned commentary.

It's fixed at $1077, presumably for the 77 in the logo "Sil7er Se7ens". Note when then lowered it from $1199 non-W2 max value they didn't use $1177 lol
