As I stated previously I'm in total agreement with Bob Dancer using max EV. In general anybody who uses any of these other strategies like min Royal is just throwing away money. A post stated that by using min Royal you do much better on the hands you don't get a Royal on. This is true: SO WHAT!! Now you get so many fewer royals that your expectation goes down the drain. Some posts think you get better offers if you don't hit a Royal. The offers must be incredibly better for you to make up what you're costing yourself on the game. In most casinos your offers are based on your coin in regardless of royals. If you like to throw away money then go ahead and use min Royal or other esoteric strategies (it's your money). My advise - always go for maximum expectation. Bob Dancer knows this! Finally in tournaments you should change your strategy to the strategy that gives you your highest expectation money wise for that tournament. Again all you're doing is maximizing your money return and not points on your machine. Pretty simple I think.

O.K. that sounds like a good topic.Speaking for myself the answer is yes. Let me think of the types of promotions that I am familiar with in regards to video poker.
1. Loss rebates.I figure playing higher volatility and more aggressively is appropriate, because you are in a can't lose situation. This assumes a straight rebate situation without a bunch of complicated requirements.
2. Scratch cards, bonus free play, draws , contests, point multipliers and the like.These might affect the game I play, and how long I play, or even the stakes I play, but I can't think of anything that would have me change my strategy for these promotions.
3. Progressives .When they get to the appropriate levels I start changing my strategy on RF holds.
I can't think of any other promotion types for video poker.  A.P.

thinking about today". Once people understand that, it will be easier for them

You would GAIN $2,500 with minRoyal, simply because you are optimizing the return of the non-Royal hands. In the long run maxEV pulls ahead because it generates more royals. In the short run minRoyal is ahead because it optimizes the return of the non-Royal hands. If there is any additional incentive for getting less royals, such as the play lasts longer or mailers accrue, this would be additional credit for minRoyal as well. If the additional incentives are enough, then minRoyal wins in the long term as well.

Would you use or recommend maxEV strategy for a video poker tournament? If so you are likely at a significant disadvantage as maxRoyal strategy is almost always the correct strategy in that situation (play each hand to maximize chance of hitting a royal).
