Re: [vpFREE] Breaking up a wild royal (was Downtown Deuces at El Cortez"

In a tournament I wouldn't hesitate for a second to make those two moves. I'd also break up 4 of a kind to go for 4 deuces if the 4 of a kind had 2 deuces.

Regards
A.P.

NOTI: Also, under the Kelly system, you'd need a fairly hefty bankroll before you'd consider breaking a pat wild royal for a draw at a natural royal.

Yes. Thanks.

One more comment: If it were tournament play, I would seriously consider holding the RF4 over the wild royal. Might even be tempted to hold 222 if dealt a three-deuce wild royal!

"The exact number of coins in the royal to make the break depends on the exact make-up of the 4-card royal, ..." - mickeycrimm

Good point. E.g., a wild royal KQJT2 has more potential played as an RF4 (sans the 2) than does a wild royal headed by the Ace because it (the KQJT2 hand) also is an SF4.

Thank you (and the others) for all the comments. Is this a great forum or what?

Roughly:

EV of one card Natural Royal draw - Variance/Bankroll/2 > Pat Wild Royal

Re: [vpFREE] Downtown Deuces at El Cortez

The exact number of coins in the royal to make the break depends on the exact make-up of the 4-card royal, what the flush pays, and whether you are playing max-EV or minimum risk strategy. But 5300 coins is a good par number.
