Re: [vpFREE] Re: Either Way (Sequential) Royals

What is the EV of 9/5 JOB with a $50K sequential royal? Worth playing at
all??

I, too, am interested to know how you can find out if a descending
sequential royal counts. Some machines will say so on the glass, but others
don't.

Also, is there somewhere that explains basic strategy changes when there is
a sequential royal?

If I ever get a sequential royal, I'm sure that I'll not be playing one of
those machines. Just like I'll be playing some form of Deuces when I get
the 4 Aces plus kicker! :-P

Good Info. I have gotten a sequential royal (only was not playing a
special bonus machine when I did). I often wondered if I would ever
get another one - and maybe I should play those special ones.

[vpFREE] Sun Coast Mailer

My only significant play at Sun Coast was in December...got about 50K points
for my play. My mailer that I received a couple days ago included:

$75 in free play, spread over three periods where I can redeem $25 each.
$25 restaurant coupon good anytime in February.
2 Free Sun Coast Showroom tickets.

What mailer level is this? Being relatively new to Coasts, I'm just
wondering if this is a good offer for my play vs other casinos. And is
their food/rooms any good? How do they compare to Red Rock, for example?

BTW, I always seem to have quad droughts when I play at Sun Coast. I did
get a Royal there holding one card, but that's about as lucky as I've been
there.

Cheers,
Nathan

Pocket aces will win heads-up against a random hand about 85% of
the time. But against 9 all-in raises preflop that means you are
worse than 3-1 to LOSE to at least one of them. In a 50-30-20
SNG, your equity at the beginning is 10. If you fold, your
equity will actually rise because you will likely b[
e in the money when the dust settles. If you call and lose, your
equity is zero. Your expected equities:

Fold: 20-30, say 25.
Call: .25*50+.75*0 = 12.50.

So yes, under the extreme circumstance of 9 all-in bets ahead of
you in an SNG, you should probably fold pocket aces. But if its
only two or three, I'll take my chances.

Basically you calculate your equity expectation from folding
against that from calling. This applies whether your cards are
aces or some other hand.

In a cash game it's always good odds to call any preflop all-in
if you have aces.

The last time I had AA (just the other day) two or three other
players insisted on getting all the chips in preflop. Of course
I went the course and, as it happened my pocket rockets held up.
And that will happen often enough to make it a good bet.

I have, on a couple of occasions had to split a pot with another
pair of rockets but those are rare occasions. More commonly you
get beat because someone draws out to a set, straight or flush.

And that WILL happen but not often enough to EVER make folding
the rockets pre-flop a good plan unless a whole table full of
gamblers is all-in and your entire tournament is at stake.

[vpFREE] Re: Venetian gold card

LB,

Thanks for the information. This is one example why you shouldn't
hit all the casinos while in town and sign up for their slot club.
This time it backfired on me. In the old days I signed up for every
slot club and collected as many cards as possible to see what offers
will come in the mail. Oh well.... Guess I'll just have to earn my
gold card at the "V" the old fashion way.

Signed up at the "V" long time ago, but I'm sure I'm still in their
system.

All the best,
CLee

I have on occasion waited longer than six months for Terrible's to
deposit my VP markers. Should I stop payment on them on the theory they
are no longer "valid" and Terribles waited too long to collect their
"winnings"? Sounds like the same reasoning the Strat is using.

Stratosphere owes the man his money. It would be easy to argue that 60
days is not a "reasonable time" for a laches limitation on collection of
debts.

[vpFREE] more re Gold Coast -- I'm even more confused.

Despite the talk I had with head of GC coast club, Jen Yee, Our mailers for
Feb. still didn't jibe with what she and coast booth sead.

In Dec. I had $19624 coin in, and 59996 points. According to coast, I
should have qualified for "C" mailer ($15000 coin in), yet I got a B mailer again!
(just like last month when I got a B but had less than the $27000 coin in
they say gets you B).

B for this month was very good with 3 $20 off food coupons, 2 buffet
coupons for 2 free buffets each, 4 periods of $30 instant credits, free gift
(candle), 2 free show tix (Lena Prima), also Mystery Instant Credits on Feb. 8.

---
Meanwhile my husband had $11799 coin in. According to coast booth and Jen
Yee, he should have qualified for D mailer ($6700 coin in). But instead he
gets an E mailer!!!! I don't get it! E is a bad mailer with only $5 off
restaurant for short period, 2 $5 instant credits for short periods, and 2
2-for-1 buffet.
---------

Also husband and myself have different extra point days to some extent.
Seems like everyone gets 8X points on Feb. 7 Chinese New Year, 6x on Feb. 29
Leap day, 7X from 14-18th. Others vary.
--------

Due to weird mailers, I still don't know if it is worthwhile to play or not.
As it happens, as we waited to eat at buffet today I put in $40 on the FP
quarter deuces and hit 4 deuces twice! And we love the GC. But is it
worthwhile?

Before changes we would each play $10,000+ through a month and get
approximately $50-75 in instant credits and $50 in food coupons, if not more. Even if
you consider that it is coin in now versus coin out. Let's say I had lost
$2000 to get $10,000 coin out (thus playing $12000 coin in equivalent). At
.003 cashback rate, the difference is $6 in more cashback now. Even with 6X
points (equivalent to 2X points in the old system), that is only $12. But if
we lose the $50-75 in instant credits plus food, we have lost a lot.

We may very well be better off to put $20,000 through at the Wynn and get
their extra cashback for locals, plus assorted comps. Or the Venetian with
their weekly (in general - it varies from month to month) locals extra cashback
mailings. Plus assorted slot tournaments.

Hard to compute this. But if I can get the "B" mailer for some X amount
that isn't that much more than the old $12,000 coin in (equivalent to 10,000
coin out - assuming a bad loss rate of 20%), than I'm better off to stick with
the GC.

Arrgh!

I guess I will try calling Jen Yee yet again to see if I can get any
sensible answer or the name of someone who does know.

Meanwhile, very annoying. (But I am smiling about 2 sets of deuces and good
buffet tonight).

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Fla. Casinos

Hi Harry,

You make a few wrong statements (not a flame, just a fact).

Class III gaming with the Seminoles in Fla is now a fact. It will
take some time to remove all the old class II machines and install
Class III. So patrons need to look to see if there is a Bingo card on
the top glass.

Class II machines don't actually predetermine wins; technically you
enter a Bingo game when you press "deal". When the Bingo game
finishes (microseconds, normally) your win or loss is determined. You
are not playing against the house on those games, you are playing
against everyone else in the casino. However, cards chosen for the
draw are only for show and will not affect the outcome.

So look for those machines without Bingo cards at Seminoles. Then the
paytable tells the outcome exactly like they do in NV. And, oh yes.
The Fla racinos are commercial machines that perform like NV and
Class III Seminoles machines.

Hope this helps.

[vpFREE] Re:Gambling Movie

I'm not the person who named the movie however, I'll give you my list.

Two favorites.

Casino which I'm sure just about everyone has seen, so I'm not going to describe.

Owning Mahowny is my other. It's based on a true story out Canada.

A bank manager ( Philip Seymour Hoffman) has a nasty gambling habit and a job that
gives him access to $20 million dollar account.

When hit with a losing streak, to keep himself bankrolled,
Hoffman develops an ingenious plan to play the bank against the casino.

The movie demonstrates how obsession becomes compulsion. The thrill of the bet.
The desire to stay in the game and how to some, it's a game, to others it's a habit.

Unlike Casino, Owing Mahowny is a low budget film, but I feel excellent. I'm unsure if it played
in the States much, I doubt if many have seen it. I highly recommend.

Other gambling movies are Rounders ( a classic )
High Roller- The Stu Ungan Story, very good.
Recent released:
Even Money was good, but not in the class of my favorites.
Lucky You, same as above- worth watching but not in same class as above.

Best Regards,
Lolly
