Can't speak for others, but I strive to take valid criticism from others to heart ... as far as any other type of guff, I look to toss it like used kleenex. (I'm confident there was nothing levied here you need think twice about ;)

It's my guess that most active posters here conceive how to take advantage of "capping" privileges in a responsible and sociable manner.

However, there's a painful minority who are clueless. In those cases, I don't have problem with whoever posted "cretin"

People's assumptions are irrelevant, unless prompted by specific warranties/promises made by the casino. I doubt those were present in this situation.

[vpFREE] Slotplay instead of the Diamond gift (7" Azpen Android Tablet)?

My local Caesar's is giving out a 7" Azpen Android Tablet for Diamonds later this month (April).

according to reviews, it's junk.
People have gotten it for $20 new and still gave it awful reviews.

in the past, CET has given people the option of taking the item or getting slotplay instead.

if so, Anyone estimate how much they would give for this tablet?

(trying to figure out if it's worth the hr drive each way to get it.)

thx

[vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LVA - 31 MAR 2015

Bob Dancer's position in his article is that machines with auto-hold should not have to provide the best strategy unless they are claiming that auto-hold provides the best strategy.

I have the opposite opinion. The problem is that the average person would assume that the auto-hold is providing them with the optimal strategy. I would make that assumption myself. The only difference between me and someone who wasn't knowledgeable would be that I would verify that auto-hold was using optimal strategy before relying on it to play faster. It's true that anyone with any knowledge of video poker would stay away from those machines. But I don't think that changes the fact that auto-hold by default should provide the optimal strategy.

I think Oregon's only defense would be to say that the people playing weren't smart enough to use optimal strategy anyway, and if they used their own strategy instead of auto-hold they wouldn't have done much better than what auto-hold told them to do, so maybe the damages would be reduced. On the other hand, if they were advertising a 90% return and people using auto-hold only got 87%, they can claim that they were misled and wouldn't have played if they knew the returns were lower than claimed. Also, by relying on auto-hold to provide the best strategy, they played faster and lost more money.

I think that the auto-hold feature should provide optimal strategy by default, and if it doesn't, it should have to be clearly disclosed on the machine. It's bad enough that many states ban casinos and then use their monopoly on gambling to provide games with poor payouts, but to mislead gamblers on top of that is especially obnoxious.

[vpFREE] Re: 2015 Seven Stars Signature Events

I was at Caesars AC and planning on playing for a long time for 5x comps, and also to get 5,000 points (for the 10,000 point bonus). Without revealing anything, I'll just say that there are only 3 specific machines there that I can play on, and they are all next to each other. I had to take a dinner break and needed to return after dinner. Of the 3 machines, one was shut down by someone taking a dinner break, another was being played, and I had the 3rd. Personally, I think tying up the machine is rude, but I needed to come back and play after dinner and was worried that all 3 machines would be occupied. Instead of shutting down the machine, I asked the slot attendant if it was possible to reserve the machine for me to come back to after dinner, but in the meantime, allow someone else to play it. I understand probability and random number generators and know that no one can "take" my royal flush, and this way I'd know I can resume play after dinner without being a jerk. To me it made perfect sense, but the slot attendant said that she can't do that. She said it can cause problems with people fighting over the machine when the person who is out returns. I don't see why there would be a problem - if you post a message on the machine it would be obvious that it would have to be given back, and the slot attendant could take down my name in case she is away when I come back and replaced by another slot attendant. Fortunately, the woman playing next to me had a boyfriend or husband who looked like he wanted to play, so I was able to make a deal where he would take over the machine while I was out to dinner for about an hour and a half. He said that was perfect, because that's about how much he needed to play to get his points. I even told him that when I got back, if he still needed to play a little longer for his points, that was fine with me. Everything worked out perfectly, I got back form dinner slightly later than I thought, and he was there and gave me back the machine with no problems. But in this situation, if I had to I would have been a jerk and had the machine shut, as much as I didn't want to do that. I really don't understand why reserving the machine while allowing someone else to play isn't an option. You would think that would make more money for the casino if they didn't have to shut down machines. As far as going to the bathroom, I usually just ask the person next to me to watch my machine for me, I pull out my money and leave in my card, and put my bag on the seat (nothing valuable in it). Never had a problem getting the machine back.

"Just you and others are misinterpreting what I said. Notice I said if you have a certain amount of action to give get the torture over with and give all the action at once. Also if you're going to have a meal or a break ask someone if they would like to play for awhile while you take a break? I'm sure you will get an avermitive answer. Remember the golden rule. How do you like it when you go to your favorite machine and it is shut down? This might sound harsh - but you just seem selfish to me (for no good reason)."

How dare you call someone you don't even know in the slightest "selfish". You know nothing about me. I happen to be a very generous person. Anyone who knows me would confirm that.

I'm not shutting the machine down for 6 hours so I can go languish by the pool, I'm shutting it down for a short time so I can go to a slot tournament session or have a meal. There are plenty of other machines for people to play when I am shutting down a machine. It's not like I'm shutting down the only 9/6 JOB machine in the casino - I'm playing dollar single line video poker at CET properties, there are no such machines.

I don't necessarily have a 'favorite' machine -- I simply want to continue to play the same machine for my entire session (which can be all day and night when I am on a solo trip, which doesn't happen often). I am not a machine hopper.

There is never someone sitting there WAITING for the machine I'm playing, so there is nobody to ask if they would like to play while I take my quick break.

Seriously, what you are saying is absolutely ridiculous. You play the way you want to play and allow others to play they way they want to without calling people names like 'cretin". There's no call for that. Period.

I have to agree with you. The longest I  have  shut a machine down would be 2 hours. One of the host's  told me a long time ago "don't  be shy...shut it down" . If I  am fortunate  enough to get a machine in an area with relative little smoke..I will do what  I can to  stay  on it.  Yes, even through  potty breaks, and dinner....CRETINS...??? Not  even!! In my estimation, that was uncalled for...

I played the same machine from 8am until 1:30am at Harrah's Las Vegas last trip and shut it down twice for about an hour each time. I was in for $3600 before I hit for $2000 and then hit for another $2000 and then finally hit for $4000. Still, I was a loser at the end of the night, but those hits helped a great deal. So, you're saying I should just let someone else play that machine while I have to do something else for a short time and not be able to go back to it? Bullshit.

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer: Equity Question for You

Because my money utility function is not totally linear (unlike Bob Dancer's) I would be tempted to play this game for a few dollars. If I hit I would be annuitized (totally!!). The reason I would probably not however is I am pretty sure that if I happened to hit the BFD I would be stiffed and not paid. This casino is clearly angle shooting (Stupak did the same sort of things). I remember the time when Pete Rose had a 40 game hitting streak and some bookie was offering millions to one in odds that Pete Rose would not break Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak. Mathematically a good bet if the bookie paid off. He could not have paid the bettors had he lost and the suckers that bet on Pete Rose were just throwing their money away.

RE: [vpFREE] Re: 2015 Seven Stars Signature Events

I guess all the complaints about Harrahs being voted the best VP by the LVRJ readers and that choice being lambasted on this forum can now be seen in another light.

Seems there are tons of list members who continue to play at Harrahs and becoming 7 Stars.
If they thought it was so bad, why do they keep playing?
