[vpFREE] Re: Franknbob progressive gone from M
If you are going to keep quoting me on that one I'd like to amend it to:
Never underestimate the penny wise pound foolish profit mongering of Nameless corporate oversight & pencil pushing micromanagement, determined to fix all things (even those not broken). Preferably with something new, even if it is untested and must replace something tried and true, because new is good (their idea) and old is bad (not their idea).
In my book I have a rant about why no two car garages are the same. Since its writing, I got to talk to an actual car garage architect and asked him why that was. Apparently it doubles your commission on a project if the plans are original. He also admitted that all the good designs were used up 50 years ago. Now all architects are progressively consigned to diverging farther and farther away from what would be the best design. With no end in sight to the downward spiral, unless we experience a paradigm shift in our economic system where efficiency will once again be favored over originality (here--pointless originality).
I have heard of the expression, "Those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it".
In America we have apparently adopted a new motto: Those that attempt to remember the past and learn from it will be punished. Just give us some new crap, (we'll pay you double).

Bob, with what you are telling me about the addons I think I have to go with B. In todays market why would they run off major major action if they were making anything at all.
[vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 9 AUG 2011
If they had bounties in the tournament then they would have been on celebrity poker players. My guess as to who Eric would be is either Eric Seidel, very tall, slender, dark haired and balding, or Eric Lindgren, average height and build, blond haired.

haha a diplomatic way of saying "compulsive gambler". But they are high class addicts, and most are "functional" unlike Stu Unger. I never understood the thrill of these bets for a high stakes pro, look what they play tourneys and cash games for. That doesn't give them enough buzz?! I never had much respect for those guys, and they are too numerous to mention. Sign of our sick society that the media glamourizes their "fun".I'd rather idolize someone like Jen Harmon, who had the courage to fight a deadly disease and helps defenseless animals
with her charity tourneys.

Apparently it was (C.)
It started off too goodda thing, with good cashback, multipliers, and bounceback. So they chopped it, from feast to famine. The goose that laid the golden egg turned into an empty shell. The suits decided they were just annoyed with it and yanked it.

Don't forget the DOW falling 600 points. This is all your fault, Mickey.

On a serious note, from all the posting activity I've seen on the M progressives, It appears that that bank was getting a tremendous amount of action. For those of you who played it could you take the time to fill us in?
1. How many machines were there?
2. Was the bank getting round the clock action?
3. Does anyone have any idea of what the average daily handle was?
4. Was it the busiest bank of machines in the house?
This is just guesswork but it seems to me that this bank would have attracted well financed and seasoned vp players who were probably cranking out a 1000 hands per hour or more each.
Theres only 3 possible scenarios:
A. The house was making some good money.
B. The house was losing money
C. The house was making a little money but figured it wasn't enough so they chopped the payscale.
I think we can nix scenario A right off the bat. They wouldn't pull it down if they were making good money. That leaves B and C.
So they chopped the payscale and it went from being the busiest bank in the casino to the slowest? Is that correct?
Their profit margin darn sure went up! Now they are getting 100% of nothing! But at least it's a hundred percent. ROTFLMAS!

[vpFREE] Re: Body Wear & Tear
No idea how vp pros play 8 or more hrs daily on uprights. Even some of the new ones that have a "pitch" or whatever you call it are only slightly better for me. I can't avoid fatigue no matter what position I get in. I could play ancient touch screen video bj back in the day 12 hrs but vp kills me. I think you are right about height and reach,
you would think by 2011 IGT would have come up with a better mousetrap.

This advice won't fly.
Re: [vpFREE] Re: Body Wear & Tear
Well, the number #1 hazard use to be smoking and second hand smoke. With
better ventilation systems, and many of those chain smoking old-timers
passing to greener pastures , we are left with Chairs and Glares. Staring at
a VP screen for hours on end is not good. Its sort of like staring into a
flashlight all day long. You might want to consult with your opthamologist,
but it might not be a bad idea to ask the attendant to lower the screen
intensity. Hazy, fuzzy, blurred , dirty, or bouncy screens are something you
should not put up with.
Chairs is a huge problem, more so in Atlantic city. Most of their chairs are
fixed at the wrong height and the wrong reach. So you constantly strain your
neck , back , hands, shoulders,or combos of next day pain by compromising
for the "one-chair-fits-all" casino mindset. So most of us over 4 0 folks,
really want an adjustable chair to avoid a trip to the CHIRO.
BTW - there is an excellent CHIRO , Dr Derek Dey, on Eastern.
best...Tom

FK Reply:
This problem is indeed so prevalent in the VP community that I devoted nearly a chapter in my book to it entitled, "Yo Ho Ho & a Bottle of Rum". (Piracy was the first job description in America with health benefits, if you missed the connection).
I also devoted a radio show to VP related health issues. I was planning on doing another show on this topic, but Bob ruled that it wasn't gambling related (enough). If you'd like to hear it you can find it at:
https://www.progressivevp.com/radio_show.php It's the Feb 17th show.
The reasons for body pain are too varied and person specific for me or any non-doctor (or even a doctor that hasn't examined you) to give you solid advice here in forum. You should see a specialist, tell them of your hobby, and ask if there is anything you can do to mitigate the stress it puts on your body. If the answer is, "not much" you should find another hobby.
You appear to be a recreational gambler, and don't need it to pay your rent. Therefore, getting another hobby that's less stressful should be your best course of action.
No one has to play video poker, not even us pros. Life is too short to spend it in pain.
Best wishes to you,
~FK
