Re: [vpFREE] Re: Check out DailyTech - Man May be Sent to Prison for Exploiting Firmware Bug i

Of course it's cheating. Yes, some people want it not to be because they're already counting the money if something similar ever happens to them. But it's no different than if there was a "bug" in BofA ATM's that someone stumbled upon when they pushed an odd sequence of buttons by mistake while withdrawing $300. Suddenly, asking for $300 shot out $3000, and his account only reduced by $300. Then the person goes at it again and gets another $3000. That shows intent to defraud a bank, and if he doesn't return the extra cash the first possible chance, then it is absolutely a felony. Doing the same to a casino machine and a casino is no different. It's not some smart "advantage play". It's just plain illegal.

How can this not be considered cheating?

They've manipulated a situation so that they would be paid multiple times on a single betting transaction and at greater than the advertised odds. How is this not in violation of the posted rules?

While I agree this is not a legitimate hacking case and I don't see how it should be a wire fraud case, it should certainly be prosecuted. To me it would be the same as playing a $100 hand of blackjack, winning and getting paid, somehow distracting a not-so-bright dealer so that you can collect your win and pad the bet with a stack of black chips and getting paid again on that.

The only difference between cheating a machine and cheating a human dealer is that a lot of people apparently feel they have a better chance of getting away with it on a machine. Then when they do get caught they feel like they should just be able to play stupid and get a slap on the wrist.

The article should be "There's something about Bob". I always figured that it was Bob's way or the highway since Frank left the radio show. This "sad" story, just cemented that feeling. It was more about his finding a new girlfriend than anything else. Good luck Shirley, you will realize you are way better off without him.

[vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 7 MAY 2013

Asking the most famous high stakes video poker player in the world to retire before his time is akin to asking Barry Bonds to retire before breaking the alltime homerun record....because his wife developed an exteme allergic reaction to grass or anything that touched it.

For the guy that "goes to meetings" but still reads vpFREE, Bob is not a gambler. Stu Unger was a gambler. Bob is a highly skilled risk taker with a ton of discipline. He is like the casino owner who always plays with an edge. Professional gamblers (terrible name for our trade) know the difference but the folks "at the meetings" don't.

If Bob chose to retire from video poker because of his wife's condition you all know what would happen. The naysayers would come flying out of the woodwork calling Bob's reason for retirement a big lie...."the real reason he retired is because he went broke!!"

Every time I log onto my computer, My Yahoo! homepage pops up with all the recent news. Celebrities announce divorces practically every day. Bob is a celebrity in the video poker world. He announced his divorce. No big deal. Half of marriages wind up in divorce.

Thank God you kind folks don't know my track record with women. LOL.

RE: [vpFREE] getting casino stink out of your skin, was Re: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column

I will be going through the same thing as Bob in two years. My wife is unwilling to move to Vegas. I have begged her to no avail. She would be a perfect partner since she is Sr. Accountant( Controller).
My backroll would be twice as big with her.
Best wishes to Bob. I've met both bob ans shirley at one of his seminars and both people were very cordial. The only thing constant in life and gambling is CHANGE.

I got the impression that his (now) ex and he decided, together, they didn't have enough in common to continue.

I also believe he shared the column with her before publishing and she gave her ok.

As a 'public' figure, Bob felt he needed to offer an explanation, and the nuances between here and there must be many.

I wish it hadn't happened, as there was a certain amountof vicarious enjoyment this perpetually single man got outof the idea of a successful couple. (If it can happen to aprofessional VP gambler in Vegas, it can happen to me.)

But in the meantime, Bob did the best he could with a badsituation, was as 'frank' as he could be in the situation andthat's probably as much as 'we' can ask.

I personally had the 'until death do us part' reaction afterreading it, but upon reflection, let us all realize there isfar more to any 'news' than meets the eye.

Bob and Bonnie, good luck to both of you.

Now let's get back to discussing VP and related?

It gets absorbed into your skin and it takes days for it to sweat back out. Also bad for the eyes, as in lens replacement surgery. Of course plenty of people don't let COPD stop them from gambling, they just lug their oxygen tanks into the casino.

Well, what the heck! I started to write something about this, then decided to drop it. But after reading the other commentary, guess I willjump in and give mine. I think Bob Dancer's latest column just absolutely amazed me. He has always seemed like an intelligent, articulate, and very decent human being. I have always liked seeing his columns come out. But, some time back he wrote that short of any really serious mistakes on his part, they (him and Shirley) were set for life. If that were me, for the sake of my wife I would of decided to never set foot in a casino again, and just do analysis, write books, columns, and do radio shows... whatever...all from afar. I think it could of been done. To me, people and relationships are not throwaway items. The world would be a happier place if people realized marriage is a lot more than convenient. (By the way, no, I am not religious---that's not, repeat not, my impetous on this.) Mr. Dancer really, really sh ocked me on this one. It is his life, but he took it public, so that's my two cents!!

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 7 MAY 2013

What is wrong with some of you people?

1) For those that ask, "What happened to those vows "in sickness and in
health?", this seems like a mutual decision. The article stated "even
showering immediately after I came home wasn't good enough." This is a persons,
Shirley, whom I know personally, health and life we are talking about here.
As a conclusion after reading the Dancer article, this seems like the
logical best move for both parties involved.

2) For those of you that want to counter with "I don't know why Dancer
chose to share this slice of his private life, but I wish he hadn't",
wonderful, but what is written is written and your wish has, is and will not be
granted. It is likely not easy to write a weekly column. Especially not when
one is going through such stress and anguish in a life and death situation.
Dancer can write what he wants to. That is a right that Bob has earned based
on the works that he has accomplished in his career. I doubt any of you
will not dare to read his columns in the future for fear that you wished that
you had never "opened the envelpoe".
