[vpFREE] Re: Venetian slot club changes

The days of the even marginally profitable $5 play are LOOOOOONG gone.
Occasionally, you'll read in one of Dancer's columns about how
something like a $5 NSUD play with .3 or better cashback might
occasionally pop up, but he only writes about such things after he's
played (and killed) them. The trouble is, $25000 coin-in ($5 max-coin
at high speed) translates into $37.50/hr, for instance, at FPDB with
no comps or cashback; $25/hr at FPJOB with double points when the
normal cashback is .3; and the aforementioned NSUD play with double
points @ .3 would be a hefty $75/hr. If you can handle the variance,
and have a humongous bankroll, these are very strong plays.

Which is why you don't see them any more. Exceptions (aka "mistakes")
do occur, but when that happens, the plays get swarmed, and burnt out.

[vpFREE] Re: The Montana Play

1. I would put this at over +8% with a hyper-aggressive, high-
variance "Ace Attack" strategy.

2. The hourly return depends on how many hands you can slam through in
an hour, which depends on the condition of the machine, how often Miss
America (or at least, Miss Montana, or even Miss Billings) walks
through the door, etc. At a very modest speed of 800 hands/hr, which
would be $400 coin-in, you're making over 30 clams/hr.

3. Is this a trick question? With Montana's (asinine) $800 jackpot
limit, do you ever GET a W-2G?

What outed the play for you? I ran across something similar in
Hamilton one fine summer day, and vacuumed all the progressives, which
were $800/max for the five aces, $350 for the natural AAAA, and $170
for the AAAxx. Don't ask me how they got that high. I checked back on
my way back through and the progressives had been removed.

[vpFREE] Re: taxation of food

I found "Nevada Tax Notes" issue No. 157 (Jan. 07) which tells about
"discount coupons." It says if a business offers their own coupon involving
reductions in the price of meals and beverages, the reduction is not taxed.
Examples are $2 off lunch buffet, buy-one-get-one-free, two-for-one. "The
Department has received a number of complaints from customers who were charged sales
tax on the full retail price of the itmes for which they had a discount
coupon. If a retialer provides its own non-reimbursable coupon to a customer, the
coupon must be treated as a 'cash discount.' In other words, sales tax must
only be calculated ont he next sales price charged the customer (nrs
372.025(3)(A) AND 372.065(3)(a)."

So example - if you buy one dinner for $15 and get one $15 dinner free, tax
is only due on $15 (not $30).

This note also says "Since these coupons are treated as discounts rather
than "complimentary" the value of coupons redeemed should not be included in tax
calculations by the seller."

--
It doesn't go into what happens if something is "complimentary."

The above is why if you get a $25 off coupon from Coast, there is no tax
charged.

The note also says "If a retailer receives a manufacturer's coupon for which
he is reimbursed, it is considered part of gross receipts and is subject to
sales tax."

That could be why a comp to a non-casino-owned restaurant is taxed.

Also presumably if you have say a 10% off coupon offer for say Macy's, you
should only be taxed on the price after the coupon.

I will continue to see if I can find anything more in the Nevada tax code re
actual comps.

Hey, went into the lounge on Saturday the 19th and all I needed to
show was my gold card...however, for free alcohol they wanted to see a
platinum card.

[vpFREE] Venetian slot club changes

At the Venetian a couple weeks ago, don't know how long their new slot
club rules have been in effect, but for the gold level (mid level) cash
back is now .08%. You can take it as a property gift card - which just
means comps - at .16%, or free play credits at .24%.

Though they've reduced cash back, their mailer offers are quite
consistent and quite nice with room, some food (though dinner can run
you $35 even at the food court !)and cash.

Any suggestions on places to play higher denomination vp - say $5 - and
get good cash back and good cash mailer offers? I've looked at the
Vegas index and there just doesn't seem to be much anymore - however,
that list really doesn't take into account the cash that comes with the
mailer offers. I'm just looking for a game that's at least break even
with good play - I don't really care if the bathroom tile is marble or
vinyl.

What game are we playing on that bank. I checked it again today and it
looked like 7/5 Bonus was the best game on there. Pretty ugly if you

I've been at dinner, Micki, so forgive me for sliding in the back
door. Limiting myself to 30 minutes, I come up with around a 7%-9%
play (I'll put the minimum estimate at 6.6% - I'm winging a guestimate
of how much on top of that aggressive play for the A's adds. (I can
show my work upon request ;)

If you assume a 10-coin machine that plays at a moderate speed, say
800 hph, hourly coin in is $400 ... making this about a $35/hr play
with fairly low bankroll requirement.

I see a negligible incidence of $1200+ payouts on the progressive
meters. (i.e. don't sweat W2-G reporting)

I didn't get a chance to check my work within your time constraint.
Be easy on me ;)

- H.

Especially give that alert out to that husband/wife/son combo who
comes in with a sheet. Now that's embarrassing, coming in with a sheet
to play Jacks or Better with an average 6K coin royal. Actually, Bonus
is easier, you don't have to worry about holding J over AJ.

[vpFREE] Progressive Alert at GVR $1 5-Play Progressive Line @ $8500!

One of the lines on the 5-play $1 progressives between the lounge and
the bathroom with an exit leading towards the cafe was around $8500
when I left around 4:45 pm. This is on a bank of, I believe, ten
machines at GVR which have quarter and dollar multi-game progressives.
The combined total for all 5 lines was over $29000. The $8500 RF
gives that line an EV of about 101.75%

Re: [vpFREE] Re: What's the story with taxation of food comps??

The law in Nevada is that there is no tax applied to comps IF:
1. The facility is owned by the casino
2. The points CANNOT be used for cash back

Otherwise, tax applies.
