[vpFREE] Re: Boyd Hosts let go.

Wow...to paraphrase Latka from Taxi...

Boy Vegas is a tough town.

Went on the B Connected app 30 minutes ago, and my host was listed at GC.
Now...she has been vanished. Did talk with one of the four last month when I was there, and he upgraded me to a suite, so perhaps next time, I might have someone to deal with.

Thanks for the heads up!!

The four Gold Coast hosts listed in vpFREE2 are the only ones who had their business cards available at the high limit host desk today.

No one knows everything. I certainly don't. In fact, most experts I know can take credit for discovering themselves only a small corner of their bag of tricks. Most successful techniques were someone else's idea. I read every word on gambling I can find, just on the chance of finding some little gem I didn't know.

John is obviously a smart guy, and probably knows a lot.
But he ain't sharing it. At least not in his articles.

He has every right to keep that knowledge to himself. Many members of this forum do the same, and I'm no different. What we don't do is publish 1000 word bland articles devoid of anything useful -- even for a beginner -- and then flog our "expert" books and materials. Anyone who can put a sentence together and run VPW can do that -- with or without a Ph.D. It's just an easy way to keep your name out there and make a few bucks without ruffling any feathers on either side. Real writers care more about being useful or interesting.

I particularly love how he uses up an entire paragraph to list -- in prose -- the entire pay table for TDB. Something wrong with a table? Not enough words?

[vpFREE] Re: Boyd Hosts let go.

I can tell you that at Sam's Town the only host left as of Friday is someone named Henry Forte. Johnny Difulvio and others (possibly Kathi Gant) are gone. Received a letter in the mail from John Sou that generically described "team changes" and he elaborate via email that he, Ronnie Highsmith (Asst GM) and Henry Forte would be available for our future assistance.

I don't agree. John's always been a decent writer. He's interesting & straightforward, and unlike a few others, I've never seen him make anything up or contradict himself just to complete a column. And of course he writes mainly for those wanting to learn. The rest already know everything.

Mickey, maybe he knew you're good at challenges and an expert at adjusting :)

Not impressed either.

How many Captain Obvious hacks do we need writing 1000 words on whether or not to hold a kicker? I could spew out drivel like that in my sleep. Or create a SpewBot to do it for me. How bout something original or useful, Dr. J?

As for his sellout to Williams -- if you can call it that, since he likely received nothing of value in return -- perhaps the good doctor prefers to save his best material for the other side.

Every time I see or hear the name John Growchowski I get a case of sour grapes. I don't hate him but I'm not a big fan of his. He writes for novices anyway. But it was something he did in the late nineties that leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

The slot manufacturer Williams came out with a great advantage slot in 1996 called Piggy Bankin'. This game was followed by Shopping Spree, Safecracker, X-Factor, etc. Williams was also one of the first with a multi-game console, the name of which excapes me. There were two advantage games on these consoles. One was a video poker game called Flush Fever. The other was a video blackjack game that offered early surrender. Both games came in at 100.4%.

The video poker game was not the play to us. The blackjack game, with the extremely low variance, was the big play. And this was in the day when practically every casino had same day cashback. And many of these places had multiplier cashback days. So imagine playing this blackjack game with 1% cashback. We got a payday practically every day. We had torched the game out of several places so the handwriting was on the wall that the play would eventually go kaput. But much to our chagrin Growchowski vastly speeded up the process.

When he got wind of the game he contacted Williams and told them they had made a mistake. We know he did it because he wrote about it. Williams personnel didn't believe him so he proved it to them. He wisened them up. They fixed the problem. Thanks alot, John.
