Re: [vpFREE] Re: New BConnected

I would say a few things:

  1.  Leave Boyd ASAP.
  2.  If you want comped rooms etc., your going to need some slot play.
  3.  Emerald level play, why not do CET Total Rewards?  Lots of room offers, Atlantis, Monthly Show Tickets, $100 Annual Dinner, Bonus Tier Points, No Resort Fees, Diamond Lounge, etc.
  4.  I would also consider the Stratosphere Club program and the casinos that are in its players club.
  5.  Reno, South Lake Tahoe, Laughlin, other Nevada.  Also, Biloxi and other places, USA/Canada/Caribbean.
  6.  Use offers & status at URComped for cruises etc.
  7.  Four Queens has always been generous to me.
  8.  Circus-Circus if you can stand children; as they have a generous program.
  9. For many of you, the goal is to have fun and have some comps to subsidize your vacation.  In 2018, this really will mean slot play.  If not (which I have done myself) limit casino visits, to cruises on URComped and my local Miami casinos.
  10.   Those of you in the Biloxi market: IP has been gutted (gone are weekly comped meals, room stays, etc.) so I would take my business to Treasure Bay.  https://treasurebay.com/players-club/club-tier-levels/

slot play, would really benefit your offers and perceived value, to the
casino.  You want a high perceived value, to go forward, or be left
behind in the near future.  The time to change is now, not later."

Be careful with this.  The typical house edge on reels is probably in
the general neighborhood of 10%.  Boyd's new accrual rate for tier
credits on reels, compared with the accrual rate on VP, is consistent
with this.  If you've been used to playing exclusively 9/6 JOB, and are
now going to switch 30% of your action to reels, you'll be giving up
about 3.32% of your action, as opposed to 0.46% previously.  That's an
expected loss more than seven times what it was before.  The added free
play you'll earn will make up for only a small fraction of this.  The
loss might be mitigated a bit through judicious selection of good
progressive jackpots and other good situations, but don't fool yourself
into thinking you can do so successfully on any day of your choosing.

I see no reason to think that some tiny amount of reels play, like 3% of
your action, is going to fool the system.

"10K a day will get you comped rooms at any of the Station Casinos."

"You asked about South Point. They appear to base their offers (for
locals and non-locals) heavily on actual losses unless you have a really
huge amount of video poker coin-in or play a lot of slots."

This is the kind of information that's really useful.  Thank you.

Followers of vpFree will pine for the days when you could earn really
valuable free play, and could aspire to a worthwhile monetary return on
play time invested in VP.  But anyone reading this forum today should
understand, make no mistake about it, that situation ended some time
ago, almost everywhere in the country, and certainly everywhere in Las
Vegas.  It's fun to read the stories in Million Dollar Video Poker, but
you're reading history, not about anything you're going to find today.
Now if you've honed your VP skills, and you spend time in casinos, you
might find a unicorn in the wild. Barring that, don't expect to be
making money.  It's high time we all admitted that to ourselves.

What you can aspire to is earning a nice, statistically-free vacation
(with a whole lot of variance).  Probably little more than that.  And
pay close attention to the warnings about backoffs, which do happen,
particularly in Las Vegas at Stations and Boyd properties.  For
longevity, you'll need to sacrifice some value by mixing up the games
you play, and not playing only on multiplier days.  Even that might not
be enough for you to last forever.

Don't get obsessive about the fine details of the various companies'
comp systems.  And it does no good whatsoever to whine about how stupid
the casinos are being in how they treat VP players.  As applied to most
of those following this forum, casinos are absolute making the smart
decision to say, "You're not wanted here."  If you can sneak in quiet as
a mouse, and grab the cheese unnoticed, consider yourself to be doing
well.  True, casinos are being dumb if their attitude toward VP players
in general is to assign a theo equal to the house edge for perfect play,
or only slightly more generous than that.  This is a big change from the
attitude in years past, when casinos, I think correctly, assumed that
most players played pretty badly.  But there's not a thing you can do
about it. We can fully expect things to get worse in the future.
Casinos will develop the capability of assessing skill on the fly, and
of treating individual players accordingly.

For those planning their schedule for the year around playing video
poker--you seriously need to get a life.

[vpFREE] Re: New BConnected

I talked today with my Host, Luis, the head Host
at Gold Coast. I had emailed him my observations as
voiced on this forum and specifically asked if the
tightening by Boyd of the BConnected program
flowed over into the Host department or are
they still able to function with the same discretion
they've had in recent times.

I expected an email back but I was surprised to get
a personal call from Luis and he explained that the
host department has not been affected in any way.
I explained my concerns about the changes in the
card system and he talked in a unusually defensive
but concerned manner. He wanted me to understand
that my comps from his department would not be affected
and the the cuts in the BConnected system were
to offset the new "generous" benefits that are available
to the members (cruise, etc.) as well as multiplier
points and other offers. I did not choose to argue with
him over those comments. I told him many of us
are hoping with time that the realization will be that
Boyd will understand that the cuts were way too
drastic and decide to modify them. Personally I could
do without the cruise perk and put those costs back
into the program.

I'm planning a trip in Oct. and I'll experience firsthand
both the card program as well as the host comps.
I almost always get room and meals comped for both
me and my sister. We play 10 hours of VP a day for
3 days, my sister mostly nickles and quarters and I
quarter and .50, single line and multi line deuces but
considering BP instead because of the changes.

Just thought I'd share my timely experience.

Re: [vpFREE] Sapphire renewal at BConnected

If you end 2018 and are Emerald, you will be Emerald for all of 2019.  It is exactly like Total Rewards. What ever you amount of tier credits you accumulate that year will determine your level for the following year.

January 1 everyone starts at 0 but they carry the tier achieved from the prior year.
