[vpFREE] Re: Palms

I stopped playing at the Palms when they took out the Joker Wild 20/7 4000 machines. They were there from the beginning opening. In a good week as a "seasonal resident" I gave them about 75K in action. Things change, my action moves to other casinos. Plenty of options still, just have to dig a little deeper.

"To celebrate the new route, JetBlue is offering an introductory fare of only $89 one way (a) between May 28 and June 17, 2015. All introductory fare tickets much be purchased by January 16, 2015. "

NOTI, your guide to simulating the casino environment was one of the most entertaining and yet on-the-mark posts I've read in a long time.

Just to clarify, on the simulators you probably need pretty close to 100% to even have a chance in the actual casino environment. You can simulate a casino environment a bit on your computer: just turn up two radios really loud with music you really hate and open a porn mag with porn you really like and turn the TV on to a channel you really like and really loud so you can just hear it over the radios and shine a flashlight or spotlight on your computer screen and dump a pepsi on the keyboard and screen and see what kind of error rate you then get. Try to carry on a conversation with your significant other at the same time and see what happens. You can also experiment with what error rates you get as a function of how many drinks you've had if you're planning on drinking in the casino. Stay away from the cigs, nicotine actually helps focus the brain in the short term. The second hand smoke you get in a casino may actually improve your game, in the short term. Of course long term you're looking at COPD and cancer.

A 1/2% hold is about a 1.25% leak from computer optimum FPDW. And those were better players on better machines. Today you have a lower class of players and a lower class of machines, many of them have seen too many years of service and are worn down. Also they didn't use to use spotlights and over 85 db background noise, today they do. And today the quality of the keys even on new machines is significantly worse.

One of the biggest problems in actual casinos is sticky buttons, so you might have had a dealt trip but one of them flipped off on you. Now in the old days the casinos were nice about that and would pay you for machine mistakes, but these days that's pretty rare. Another problem is the excessive (over 85 dB) noise in the casino environment and the use of spotlights which produce glare off the screens, so you might have had a dealt trip and didn't even see it. Maybe you got a good glimpse of the cocktail waitresses' cleavage or bikini area, but you missed your hand.

16-10-4 deuces (NSU) is about a 1% leak from full pay (15-9-5) deuces. So for 5000 hands at quarters you'd be leaking about 0.01 x 5000 x $1.25 = about $62.50 per 5000 hands. At dollars you'd be leaking about $250 per 5000 hands. Likewise, 9-6-4 double double bonus is about a 3% leak from 10-7-5 double bonus. True, with double double you hope to make back about half of that on the kicker hands, but in the short term that may or may not happen. Aces with a kicker has a cycle of about 16,236 while 4, 3 or 2's with a kicker has a cycle of about 6,983.

I strongly repeat you have to add into these the amount you are leaking due to not being able to deliver computer perfect play in the casino environment. The average gambler might be leaking an additional 2% just in play mistakes. I think about 2% is the number IGT comes up with from analyzing their aggregate machine data.

Re: [vpFREE] question about results after 2000 hands of Jacks o r Better

Those must be really casual gamblers if they are leaking 2% due to mistakes at VP. When I train for a new game on iPad Winpoker, I play 1,000 hands of "intuition" based on the paytable before actually looking at a strategy. I find it helps me across a variety of games getting used to the difference between 6 and 7 on a flush, 4 and 5 on a straight, 2 and 1 on two pair etc.

I don't think I've ever had an expected return under 99.2% of maximum just playing intuitively during those test runs (and I won't attempt a game in the casino until I'm seeing 99.9% or better). I can't imagine how poorly you'd have to play to be leaking 2% of your handle. I'll routinely see error rates of 5-7% during those test runs but the expected return is still over 99% of possible. It's not like I'm throwing away trips to keep a three-card flush.
