Re: [vpFREE] Ellis rewards

Ellis required 60k over the prior 6 months to get the Platinum mailer
which I met over the past couple of years. Then come February 1 they
treated me as though I had never played there before and no perks under
their new system until I had played in February. I put through a few
bucks and then said to myself, it's not worth it, especially with no
point multiplier nor any indication of how I would be treated. I did
enjoy playing there, played bingo occasionally and enjoyed the food at
the Cafe. I plan to wait and see how this new system shakes out.

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LVA - 24 FEB 2015

Well Bob, I've seen you make mistakes before, but this one is your biggest. It all comes down to priorities, and the way you arrange yours
is not the way to have a lengthy relationship with a spouse. I've been married to the same woman for over 40 years, so I have some knowledge in this area. If you are half as successful in your profession as you would appear to be, losing one day of double points shouldn't seriously impact your bottom line. Pissing off your wife could cause significantly greater damage.

Re: [vpFREE] Back-to-back hits

The place: MGM Grand, Las Vegas

The date: June, 1997

Background: I had been playing video poker for about a year, practising with VPTUTOR on my 286 MS-Dos home computer. I had 3 royals under my belt in the first year (2 for nickels, one for quarters).

June 22 I had hit a quarter royal (number 4) at the Grand.

We were flying home the 23rd. Since I had several hundred dollars of winnings in my jeans, I made the momentous decision, for me, to try $1 poker for the first time.

My plan was to insert $100, play it through once, and see what happened.

I found a bank of 16 slant-tops offering $1 5-8 Bonus poker.. There were 3 or 4 others at that bank, all down at the far end. I took the last machine at the other end.

- Put my benjie in the machine.

- proceeded to LOSE every one of the first 11 hands. I was horrified. That $55 would have lasted me all day at nickel 7-10 double bonus (which was widely available in the day).

- I pushed the 12th hand. Things are looking up.

- I then drew 2 to the royal on the 13th hand. QJA - kt

The 13th hand of dollars in my life! $4,000.

Here's why this story is relevant to the thread. When the attendant came to do the hand-pay, his first words were "I just paid a royal on that machine 10 minutes ago. The player took the money and left."

Very early in my V.P. career, I learned an important lesson - ie - the machines have no memory. This machine paid 2 royals in 14 hands (maybe 15 hands if they made him play off the first royal).

Many superstitious players seem to feel that they must leave a machine after a good win, believing that it's programmed not to pay out again for a long while. It just ain't so.

[vpFREE] Re: Retirement & its impact

It's been over a year since I've been on this board. So took a while to
jump through verification hoops before I could sign on & see what others have
written.
A lot of good points have been made. I'll focus on one -- the break even
on SS:
1. Contention: SS will go to hell because it's under-funded. Maybe it
will go to hell, maybe not. I do believe that benefits will probably be
adjusted downward in order to keep it alive. I also think downward adjustments
will be on a pro rata basis which will reflect the decisions you make when
taking SS.
2. Points about present value vs future value: Good point made about
present $ being more valuable than future $. Almost always true but there
exists today a situation where money funds are buying foreign treasuries with
small NEGATIVE interest rates. Which means the situation is reversed but I
doubt if that will last for long. In current near-zero interest rate
environment, 8% looks great. But if you're old enough to remember the near 20% CDs
of the 70s, you know how things go in cycles. The only thing I can predict
with accuracy is that we will head into another cycle starting when ?
3. Someone said break-even is around 78, with present value vs future
value consideration kick it up to around 80 unless inflation goes crazy then
who knows how much older. If you're in poor health & aren't going to do
anything to help yourself, definitely take SS now in order to maximize it before
kicking off. Let's say you know you'll live beyond 80, taking SS early may
still be a good idea IF you have the discipline to invest your SS & make
more than 8% a year. Big question: do you have the discipline?
4. There has been a lot of healthy discussion from all angles. What do
financial planners say? Unless you have poor health, the consensus is WAIT
till 70. In fact, I saw this on CNBC recently.
5. I've been able to do better than an 8% average for quite a long time &
kind of expected to wind down after 65 but the market (last 5 years) was
like a VP play with double pay on all 4 OAKs. The downward trend of VP
combined with the upward trend of the market made it easy to stay home & forgo a
lot of so-so VP offers. So why am I going to wait till 70?
a. Can live without the money & not worried about health of SS.
b. It's a guaranteed 8%. Some may argue the "guaranteed" but the basic
premise is you get 8% with little risk.
c. KISS. When I kick off, I don't want my spouse to try to do what I do.
I just want things to auto-deposit & she can ignore the rest.
6. TRIAL PERIOD: Whatever decision you make can be reversed within a
year. In other words, if you elect to take SS, you have one year to change your
mind if you pay back everything you received. It used to be no time limit
but that changed when SS got tired of some people using them for no-interest
loans.
7. If you do wait till 70 to collect full benefits, study collection of
half your SS by spouse. Does not lower your benefits at 70. Ameliorates the
pain of waiting. Lowers the break-even age.

Re: [vpFREE] Back-to-back hits

I have had two back to back quads that I remember. Four queens on the $1 Jacks at the Fiesta and four aces on the $2 10/7 DB at the Palms.

One play that stands out was two dealt royals in the same suit (spades) on $2 8/5 BP at the Silverton on the same machine 59 minutes apart (according to the time stamp on the W2-Gs).

Re: [vpFREE] Back-to-back hits

Good Afternoon

While I realize this is poker forum we have had few hits that was unique on
slots. Harrahs Joliet when it was still a active Riverboat my wife was
playing $1.00 3 coin Double Diamond and hit a for $2500 on three diamonds.
When you hit a Jackpot they would come and get your information and reset
the machine and then allow you to play it while they was getting your
jackpot money. Before they could get back to pay her for her first jackpot
she hit for the three diamonds again for $2500. Also at that time we would
both play my card to maintain our Diamond Status and with the second jackpot
they gave us a hard time using the same card, they actually went and got her
a card in her name before they would pay her. Lake Tahoe Harrahs we were
flown there for the 2000 July 4 Fireworks and could win nothing in the
casino for two days she finally inserted $20.00 into a 5 times pay and hit
for the three fives for $10,000 and exactly one month later in Vegas and hit
again $10,000 while waiting for me to go to a Slot Tournament where I won a
cruise to Alaska she had inserted another $20.00 into another 5 times pay.
She used to pay video poker and only had one Royal dealt to her on the old
white glove poker machine playing 9/6 at Harrahs in Vegas back in the late
1990's.

Thank you for sharing your stories Coach I always enjoy reading your posts
and remembering the good times.

[vpFREE] Re: Back-to-back hits

I got back-to-back royals two years ago. Hit a $1 JoB royal for $4,000 at
Resorts in AC. 5 hands later I held a lone Qh and pulled a second $1 JoB
royal. The lady that gave me my handpay for the first royal was just 5
yards away from me heading back to the cage. It was surreal.
