This week's guest will be Michael Kaplan, gambling writer for "Cigar Aficionado" magazine. When Kaplan started writing for this magazine he was a recreational gambler, at best. After speaking to several gambling experts over the years (including both Munchkin and me), Kaplan is now a professional-level gambler. STUDYING HELPS! Also, Munch came across an interesting article: http://calvinayre.com/2011/10/08/legal/america-claims-legal-jurisdiction-over-globe/#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss We're going to be discussing our take on that with respect to gambling. There are a lot of political ramifications to this as well, but there are plenty of talk shows to discuss that --- with whatever political slant you prefer. We'll be limiting our discussion to gambling The show may be heard from 7-8 p.m. at 1230AM in Las Vegas, or streamed live at www.klav1230am.com The day following the broadcast, the shows are archived on both Munchkin's website and mine. Also, the show is in iPhone podcast format. Bob

[vpFREE] Re: Old Points at Silverton
Signs are now posted at the slot club saying this change to gift cards will be effective October 17th, 2011.

> Several booth attendants at the Silverton say they HAVE HEARD that the exchange rate for old points for gift cards will be reduced by 50% on October 17, meaning instead of 1000 points per dollar of gift card it will take 2000 points. They will all expire in December of this year, but if you keep them more than another week, the value of your points will be cut in half --- at least for some uses.
> Nobody knows for sure whether all of the gift cards will be affected or not. As of tonight they are out of Southwest Airlines cards.
> I'm accepting this rumor as accurate and will be selling all of my points this week --- probably on Bass Pro Shop cards. It's possible this rumor will turn out to be false. I can't accurately assess the odds on this.
> I would prefer to cash my points for SWA gift cards or Starbucks gift cards, but those are limited to $500 per month, and I've already collected my October allotment. Spending the rest of my points this week at 1-for-1 on lesser gift cards is a better deal than spending my points for the better gift cards at a 2-for-1 rate in another week.
> I suspect many people will want clarification on this.
> So do I! But at this moment better information is not readily available, even from Silverton Rewards supervisors. And it wouldn't surprise me that they will run out of several types of cards as many of us cash in whatever balances we have. So cashing your points on Monday is definitely a smarter play than planning on cashing them next Sunday.

[vpFREE] This week at Palms (Tuesday)
Just saw Frankie Mereno for the 3rd time in a row. I guess no two shows are the same. In a couple weeks he'll be having Joshua Bell guesting.
Last night we there was a lot of violin action (Vegas symphony concert master) so I was happy. Oh and he played the piano lying on it backwards...plus a simultaneous harmonica piano solo...and two guest performers Paul Sortino, and a girl from Legends in Concert.
He apparently does all he does performances and guest spots without practice or rehearsal. If Salieri was still alive he'd hate this guy worse than Mozart.
$7 at the door. (Get there 9:30 PM for good seats)
I'll be there next Tuesday with a large group and hot date if anyone would like to say hi.

Re: [vpFREE] XVP Best place for crab legs
TIDES OYSTER BAR AT GREEN VALLEY RANCH - All you can eat, served hot,
$25 plus a drink.
STUDIO B BUFFET AT M RESORT (Fri, Sat, & Sun) - All you can eat,
served hot or cold, $30.
VILLAGE SEAFOOD BUFFET AT RIO - All you can eat, served hot or cold,
$40 (or $30 with Local ID & Total Rewards Card shown at register).
THE BUFFET AT ARIA - All you can eat, served cold, but they will
steam them by request. Went on Sunday, but not sure if they have
them other days or what the current pricing is. I think we paid $36
or so?
I used to go to the Feast Buffet at Santa Fe when they had all you
can eat hot crab legs on their Friday seafood nights, but those are
long gone, and I don't think I've set foot in there since. :( I did
enjoy it, though, as it was a great use of my points!
I'd like to know if anyone else has any favourites, along with
whether they are served hot or cold and the price.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Caesar's Birthday Offer
My wife and I went to Dover Down's over the summer. They had a real small video poker section and it was lousy pay tables. But my wife liked the fact that its 100% smokefree, and they gave us a pretty good deal for showing our diamond card's from Atlantic City. About 100 bucks in free slot play if I remember rigth.
Were still getting offer's to come back, free rooms and play and stuff.

"...I just got $200 in free play from Dover Downs in
Delaware, and I play not nearly the amount there that I do at Caesars casinos..."
Dover Downs?
According to a casino guide website:
"...By law, all video lottery games must return between 87% and 95% of all wagers on an annual basis. Games can return above 95% but only with the Lottery Director's approval..."
(The article also noted DD now has tables and an iteration of sports betting and hotel rooms so the joint is a full casino with horsies too boot.)
As far as VP, the 95% top EV requirement would make the best game (without Lottery approval), 5/5 JB:-) What do you play with a $200 offer at a joint like that? Can you use at the horsies?
There are no DE casinos in the VPFREE2 database. Maybe DD should be added and ranked as the #1 casino in Deleware. For some reason, I have a feeling that the Deleware model will be used here in Mass when our 3 "full resort-style gaming complexes" are built.
Break a leg.

[Folks whose birthdays are in the first quarter/half of the year fare much better with this offer.] But, ladies and gentlemen, in order to claim the entire 5,000 points ($50 comps, as someone pointed out), you'd have to run $50,000 through VP machines (or $25,000 through regular slots). When's the last time one of your friends told you to go out and buy a birthday present from him/her, but spend your own money -- then, maybe they'll gift wrap it for you at their expense. If I qualified for the entire amount, Caesars gets $25,000-$50,000 of my money (minus whatever I might win), and I get $50 in comps in return? This is no gift, in my opinion. [vpFREE] IGT - AVP Video Poker at The Rivers - Des Plaines IL
Six more $1/$2/$5 machines in the new AVP format have been added at The
Rivers - Des Plaines, IL. Sadly nothing better than 99% as the same games as
the other $1/$2/$5 machines. (9-6DDB and Illinois Deuces best games.)
Seems like loading time is a few seconds on this format which can slightly
annoy. these things are not exactly upright but I will still call them that
in the database.
