Like Mickey said there WAS a lot of playable machines there in that golden era of late 90s/early 00s. I remember a bunch of $1 IGTs at Isleta, a bank of 50 cent fireworks, $5 door prize, $5 cherry pie at SA Star. Sandia had a bunch of lower denoms, including some rare South American branded wongable slots. There were also great games for card counters at many of the Albuq. area casinos.
But those you could say the same thing about Kansas City, Denver, Tunica, cruise ships , etc. But that fun ended a few years ago.

[vpFREE] Re: DIAD ?s
That first statement is correct--did DIAD last Wednesday at the Rio, card does expire in March 2013...between the Star Trek slots after the buffet in the morning, to the more important (and less negative expectation than I deserved, definitely),Video Poker at night, hit the magic 3,000 in a day for the fancy card. Actually went from Gold to Platinum (2,000 in a day), to Diamond inside of about 3 hours. In hindsight, it was a very, very stupid thing to do, but one hand of four deuces and a four helped even things out. At any rate, the other commenters are correct, check with a boothling before you try this--I did the night before, and was told "And your 3,000 points (worth of play) have to done steadily--(they actually said this!!)--you can't gamble for a while, then take a an hour or two off and then gamble again." (Have learned not with arguing with these people and others about things like the definition of a day, etc.). Anyhow, because the Rio was charging me 12$ a night for a room only stayed there 3 nights, hit that on my second last day, so I only visited the Diamond Lounge once, on my last night when I printed out my boarding pass. Others have said this, nice appetizers, free drinks, NFL net on TV, not bad, but definitely not worth the money I should have lost trying to chase this. Anyhow, hopefully Caesars can spring for a free room or two for me next year LOLOL!
Seriously thanks again to all the pointers/advice/information that you all have provided over the year, it definitely helped me with the journey!!!
Happy New Year!!

[vpFREE] Re: New Mexico VP
Yep, you can even figure out a video poker machine to see if it's legit. For first pass approximation assume 90% return on the bottom 6 payouts which would be 15% each. If the bottom paytable is 9-6-4-3-2-1, and if each of those returns 15%, then the average cycles must be: 60-40-27-20-13-7. Next start playing and see if your results start matching up, if not make corrections. If it's legit you should start seeing on average the JoB about every 5, 2P about every 8, 3K about every 14, and ST, FL, FH about every 88. Draw poker has the added complication that there's a strategy involved for the draw, but you can approximate that as well and adjust as your results come in. Now if it turns out that these are fixed or defective machines, you might be able to adjust to get an edge. Or in the case of a slot where you don't know what the cycles are, you can figure them out and see if you can get an edge. Of course most slots are biased towards the house, but with promos, progressives, and bonus rounds, you might get the edge. Some slots seem to have a lot of different payouts, just group them by return, just as you count all flushes as flushes whether they are spade or ace high or whatever. Start with the payouts that are 10 or less, if they aren't coming in you pretty much know you have a high variance machine.

Then another 500 spins counting the number of times a fruit symbol lands in the upper middle square, then the upper right square, and so on. Once I've got a sample space for all nine squares I'll probably do thing same thing again, adding to the sample space.

> Some people think you have to make a million spins to zero in on a frequency, that's true if you are dealing with a longshot frequency, but when you have a high frequency of occurrance, like every two or three spins, you don't need that big of a sample space to zero in on it.

If you have them where you are at then look for the icons at the top of the screen. If 3 of the five icons are filled in then go ahead and spin the play off. Once you get all 5 icons filled in you get a bunch of free games with the Treasure Chest symbols or the Red Hot Seven symbols becoming wild.

[vpFREE] Re: Deadwood to Cripple Creek to Albuquerque to Laughlin.
The name of the cardroom in Deadwood was Big Jake's. I also played at Miss Kitty's too. I'd like to tell you that everything was honky dory after I started playing cards, how I parlayed the money up and became rich....but that's not what happened. I had bad habits like booze. I didn't drink when I gambled but I could hole up and throw money over a bar until the money got short.
I had no concept of money management. I was always playing poker with a short bankroll. So it didn't take much of a losing streak to knock me out of action....and I'd wind up back in a day labor office. Actually, digging a ditch is very good therapy for a loose calling poker player. And sometimes I just felt like hitchhiking off to someplace. I was in and out of action over the next four years.
There were actually some good Stud 8 players in Deadwood. There was a pretty good balance of good and bad players. It was great OJT. Stud 8 is a game where the cards are very unforgiving to bad players. A good player has a huge edge against a bad player. Most of the bad beat stories you hear revolve around holdem, that's because in holdem the cards in the center of the table belong to everyone. But in Stud 8 your cards belong to you and no one else.
But I was only grinding around $60 a day in Deadwood. Here and their a poker player would mention Cripple Creek, Colorado. "Do they play Stud Hi Lo there" I would ask. "Yes, the do" would come the answer.

The 0 for 176 stat is not Carter's, it's mine.
Carter, the original poster, stated that one of his (or her) reasons for posting was to "let the newbies see just how long the streaks can get...".
My comment on my 0 for 176 streak was meant to reinforce that point with my own example.
I agree with a lot of what you wrote. We shouldn't compartmentalize. But that's sometimes a difficult maxim to follow when you are having a tough time in a particular area of the game. And, no, I have not experienced an overabundance of royals via other routes that would compensate for the "shortfall".
Since this personal streak of mine has involved play at a dozen or so machines at four different casinos, the idea of an illegal machine is a non-starter. To me, it's bad luck, and will turn around. I just hope it's soon.

I just wonder how many good machines and decent slot club and promos and mailers are out there in places like Oklahoma and West Virginia, etc.

I've heard there are machine plays in West Virginia, but I have never gotten a good report on Oklahoma. Who knows, maybe if I leave here, I'll take the scenic route and hit some of those out of the way places.
Re: [vpFREE] LVA Question of the Day - 26 DEC 2011
For people on the east coast, a couple non casino arcade's have old Sigma derbies. I play the one at jenkinson's in Point Pleasant once or twice a year when i'm i the area, which gives three bet's for a quarter and you get token's you can turn in for a prize.

Bob, hopes and dreams will not sustain a gambler. You simply have to know the math and how to stay on the right side of the math.
