Hi everyone. I don't post often, but I like reading the stories of good
gambling sessions and so I like to share mine as well. I know we all
feel like machines sometimes aren't playing fair when you're on the
underside of the long-term average curve, but then you have an amazing
session that brings you to the upperside of the long-term average curve
and you start to believe again.
Previously, I mentioned my best hour ever, hitting three royals on the
same single-line machine at Circus Circus Reno:

I had my single best hit ever on Friday night. I can't afford $1 play
within my bankroll and with the volatility of Ultimate X, a game which I
enjoy playing, I can only afford to play $0.10 triple play.
After sitting down, the person on my right, also playing dimes on a
single-line machine, hit a Royal Flush. I got Royal envy. Then, the
person sitting to my left got a Royal Flush playing nickels. I got even
more Royal Envy and was stating to my machine neighbors that everyone
around me was hitting royals.
Royal #14,000 dimes ($400), no multiplier. Held

Now I no longer had Royal Envy. I was a happy camper. I kept playing,
despite the man on my left who told me that I should leave now that I
hit a Royal Flush on the machine (despite the fact that he hit a Royal
Flush on his machine but was still playing on it). Well, I proved him
wrong.
Royal #28,000 dimes ($800), 2x multiplier. Held

Now my machine neighbors had Royal Envy!!! I had one more Royal Flush
than them! The man next to me really couldn't believe that I was still
playing the machine because I had surely taken all of the money out of
it. Well, I told him that actually, it had taken all of my money from
the first Royal Flush (I was down to $38 in credits it the machine when
I hit the second royal).
I kept playing because there was a hot seat promotion going on that
night. $2,000 awarded to one player every 20 minutes. I didn't
actually think I'd win, the entire place was packed with practically
every seat in the casino full. But it gave me a reason to stay longer
than usual. Luckily I did stay longer because...
Royal #348,000 dimes ($4,800), 12x multiplier. Held

Ok, that was an amazing hit! I was honestly beside myself. I got the
biggest hit possible on one of these crazy machines. I was so excited.
It's my single biggest win ever. I've hit some $1 royals before, but
never as high as $4,800. I was ecstatic.
So hopefully stories like this remind everyone that there is an upside
that comes every so often that helps to smooth out the downside. I
realize it's luck, but it's long-term luck that keeps the game exciting.

PS - I am not a shill for Barona casino, but they are really the
friendliest casino with the best service and best games in San Diego.
The service is impeccable - where else do an army of change people walk
around ASKING to cash your tickets? Where else can upper-tier players
press the service button to get a snack for free brought to your game?
They hand out trail mix, pretzels, and sometimes even full bags of
kettle corn. Their ATMs are free. They have good VP (you know the good
VP because auto hold is turned off). I would recommend taking a trip to
San Diego and visiting the casino while you're here. The hotel is also
exceptional. Lastly, remember to ask for CASH and FOOD comps. You'll
earn a measly amount of points for playing VP ($1 CI = 1 point / 1,000
points = $1 in free play or comps). But their hosts will comp you cash
and food just for asking. They told me it's based on the time and amount
played, among other things. YMMV.
