It is a matter of required bankroll. Playing 9/5 JOB (or any other 98.5-98.9% game), instead of 9/6 JOB, requires a larger bankroll to play the same number of hands. It may be a small amount, but it does matter (at least to me it does).
As someone else noted, recreational players are not (always) idiots. I try to wring as much out of our gambling budgets as I can. I seek out the best paytables I can find, in concert with where I want to play. The short term risk of ruin computation tells me how much I should bring to play the number of hands I want to.

If that player is only interested in surviving, having some fun, and taking a shot in the SHORT TERM, then if 9-6 JoB is the type of game this player enjoys playing, does it really matter if the casino offers 9-5 JoB instead? Or 8-6 Bonus Poker Deluxe? Or any game in the 98.5 to 98.9 range?
