I believe the current earning period for the Venetian's Mexican Riviera
cruise is now over (it was from Oct. to Dec. something).
It only was given to top 40 earners.
Another thing you can do if you do play a lot, but not enough to be that
high, is ask your host if they could contact you if there are last minute
cancellations. We got 2 Alaskan cruises by this tactic when we were more like #100
than #50.
The earning period for the Alaskan cruise will be later this year (maybe
April?).
Their cruises are very nice, with airfare included (leaving from Vegas).
They have some extra gifts for you onboard (we got jackets and other stuff for
Alaska). They take care of you very well.
-----------
Another even better place to get free cruises is to gamble strongly in New
Orleans at Harrahs. I recommend putting on as many points as you can in 1-2
days there. Tell the host you are interested in cruises, and hopefully you will
get an invitation to the next cruise giveaway. Generally you will have to
go back to N.O. to pick up cruise documents. Again, they treat you very well
on the cruise, with extras such as a free bottle of wine, t-shirts, free
booze in the gambling casino, free slot tournaments, etc. But no free airfare
for the cruise. With heavy enough play you might get free air into N.O.
We've been on several cruises through Harrah's N.O. - the lower-play ones
are 5 days or 7 days out from N.O. We also got a Mexican Riviera (from LA), a
Caribbean (departs Port Canaveral), and upcoming a Hawaii 10-day
(repositioning cruise though). Again, they don't pay airfare unfortunately.
A nice thing is that if husband and wife both qualify, they can get 2 cabins
- and you can take friends in one cabin.
If you play and live in Vegas, many casinos have cruise giveaways. Look for
special drawings at various casinos.
As a result of watching for cruise giveaways, we've been on at least 1 a
year since we have moved here.
------------
As for Venetian cruises - the problem with them is that they give them now
to top 40-50 people only - so you have to play a huge amount to be sure of the
cruise. Some people play heavily at the last minute, pushing you down in
the standings if you look at the list they post online.
So you could well be better off paying for your own cruise (check
Travelocity and elsewhere for cruise bargins). But if you do happen to want to play at
the Venetian - then why not play when they have one of these and ask a host
to keep you in mind for cancellations, just in case you don't play highly
enough to get on the top of the list.
