Mike,
Under most circumstances late in a tourney, UTG will limp in with a
premium hand in the hopes of a later position raising. it would have
been best for you to raise preflop here, if you had decided to play
your K9. The blinds would very likely fold, being out of pos. UTG may
have just called but with aces a reraise all in would be more likely.
At this point you would know where you stand and could get out on 2 or
2.5 big bets.
The best play would have been to fold K9 preflop. K9 is a very weak
holding at a full table, (I take it that the table was full or nearly
so). K9 doesn't produce a winning straight, any other king with a
better kicker has you dominated, and K9 suited is dominated by any
A(x) suited. Just as with all playing decisions, there are exceptions,
but the scenerio you put forth didn't really warrent a call even if it
was a limp.
I never play K9 unless I'm in the bb and noone has raised, or I'm at a
short handed table with 5 or less players.
Here are two items I always use when I have to decide what to play in
a tourney.---Everytim
ladder when someone else loses---and-
Peace
