Re: [vpFREE] Z

Derek, I think you mis-read something in my post.  The number of deaths in a "normal" year is over 2 million, not 1 million.  I never said 1 million.    In 2017, 2.8 million Americans died.   So, no, an extra 2 million Covid-19 deaths would not triple the number in a "normal" year.

If 2 million people died from the pandemic in the US, that would double the number of people that die in a "normal" year.   That's horrible for sure, but it's conceivable that trying to prevent those deaths could have a worse result for humanity.

FWIW, I'm completely complying with the CDC recommendations.  Hardly leaving the house, and wearing a mask whenever I do need to go into a business.  I'm all for the current policy, but I'm uneasy (to say the least) about the exit strategy and the long term consequences of the shut down.

I'm not sure I got the point of the 1st paragraph I quoted.  Assuming you're correct that 1M deaths occur in a normal year, adding 2M would mean the death rate would triple, not double.  However there would be some overlap amongst those whose cause of death was COVID19 and those who would have died anyway, and also some reductions due to less travel and work.

Governments seem to have been to busy dealing with the conflagration rather than the rebuilding plan.  I don't fault them for that.  There are a lot of smart people in USA who will be planning in detail and I'm sure a well thought out plan will at least be discussed, if not followed.
