Just adding that I grasp a "inconguity" in the percentages cited below (COVID-19 mortality and likelihood of being subject to an accident fatality) ...

Not going to take the time to iron that one out (simply too distracted and too tired right now ...).  I think the general point stands, nonetheless.  (Good enough for me, in any case ;) )

The COVID-19 mortality rate is currently being cited at 3.4%, but admittedly on very incomplete data (particularly with respect to reporting of less severe cases).  However, all things considered, something in excess of 1% (and quite possibly 2%) seems reasonably likely.  If so, I expect the odds that someone you know will die of COVID-19 in the next year is significantly higher than that they'll die in an auto accident.  For me, that quantifies the risk as something for which I want engage in at least modest preventative measures.
