Fair enough assessment, Dave. I only wish I could lose a little weight by something as simply direct as "washing my hands and avoiding touching my face".
Irrespective of other life risks/hazards, past experience has alerted me to how much of a disruption a severe cold can be. And, generally speaking, modest precautions significantly reduce exposure. I'm faring much better these days in cold frequency vs 15 years ago.
The COVID-19 mortality rate is currently being cited at 3.4%, but admittedly on very incomplete data (particularly with respect to reporting of less severe cases). However, all things considered, something in excess of 1% (and quite possibly 2%) seems reasonably likely. If so, I expect the odds that someone you know will die of COVID-19 in the next year is significantly higher than that they'll die in an auto accident. For me, that quantifies the risk as something for which I want engage in at least modest preventative measures.
You identify other behavior modifications that most certainly would reduce my mortality risk. All I can suggest is that in reducing COVID-19 exposure risk, the associated actions are in no way exclusionary of these other lifestyle changes (i.e. it's not an "either/or" situation).

Let's start with the assumption that everyone in this group is reasonably familiar with probability and risk. Then let's examine all of the risks to our health and safety. Do you believe that COVID-19 is the biggest of those risks? If not, then what have you done to reduce or eliminate the others? If the answer is not much, then you're probably spending too much time and effort taking precautions against something that is very unlikely to kill you and not enough time and effort on the things that are. I don't want to discourage anyone from washing their hands and avoiding touching their face, but it would probably be much healthier to stop smoking, lose weight, get more exercise, drink less, and get more sleep.
Let's
