The machines you are playing are set at slow speed. Fast speed is probably 5 cycles per second or so, basically fast enough that the machine speed is not an issue. Typically quarter FPDW machines are set at slow speeds, when the casino isn't interested in coin in and really doesn't want anyone playing them. If you tip a slot tech, they might enable fast speed for you. Every now and then, throughout the country, you will find the occasional speed video poker tournament, these machines are set at fast speed and it is to your advantage to play as fast as possible. Of course you will see the usual assortment of slow players, but they are effectively not competing, which is good for you. You should probably buy them a drink after, comped of course, they cover the tip.
