Veering slightly off topic, there is a free app in the apple store (free wifi finder), which will find all free (and paid, if desired) wifi sites near you. It is very slick, and works around the world, even in Las Vegas.
Also I brought my ipad last year, and would not pay for extra for wifi, but I found it perfectly acceptable to drive (had a car, of course) to the nearest McDonald's, buy a coffee, and plop myself down and surf to my heart's content (even though it was 60 degrees there, I loved the fact that I was 80 degrees warm than home at the time).
And of course, I got to see free entertainment (unhappy McDonald's customers throwing their food, starting fights...good fun). Needless to say, the ipad never left my sight!!
