For the car-a-day drawing at Redrock on Monday night 2-20-2012, I observed what would at least be characterized as an amazing statistical anomaly.
1st place (car) 3535996
2nd place thru 5th place each received $500
The winner player card numbers for 3rd and 4th place were 5770300 and 5770301, that is the numbers called were literally consecutive card numbers!
I feel I do not have anywhere near the necessary information to even approximate how unlikely this would be, but it does make me question possible explanations.
The two consecutive numbers are most likely husband and wife, or at least two acquaintances. But for both numbers to be drawn in the same drawing, even consecutively? A first thought is that both players had to be huge players, a level hundreds of times higher than even a normal chairman level player. But since entries earned in this contest are valid for all days of the promotion, on might think in such a case their numbers would have shown up already in the several prior days. It just so happens that my own card number begins with 577.. so that is what I first look for on days I check the drawing results. Today was actually the first day I encountered any winning number beginning with this same 577.
