[vpFREE] Hollywood @ Kansas Speedway

We just got back from an excursion to the Southwest including a month at Sam's Town in Las Vegas so thought we would check out the new casino at the Kansas Speedway. A mailer waiting for us from Argosy, Kansas City, left no doubt who was running the Hollywood. Enclosed were two Hollywood slot cards which will be good in both casinos, accrued points available in either.

General impression: The facility is very nice, well decorated, high ceilings, good air quality, and much larger than I was expecting. However, unlike its sister property in Tunica, we saw almost no movie memorabilia. The "Hollywood" theme was mostly through large photographs and video screens. No original movie posters.

Buffet: First place we headed since we are casino buffet addicts. Again well decorated, nice facility with a combination of tables and booths. Some tables overlooks the race track (bet those are hard to get on NASCAR weekends). We were somewhat disappointed in two areas. First, in spite of the mailer we got, we could NOT use Argosy points to pay for food. That feature, the cashier explained, was not yet available and wouldn't be so for another month or two. Since this was our first visit we had to cough up $15 each for the meal. Second, the food wasn't that great. There were some dishes that were good and some were just plain lousy. This ain't the Carnival Buffet at Rio still we did manage to find enough edible food to leave with full tummies. There are other eateries but we have no information on them.

Video Poker: At first we couldn't find any and was wondering if they existed. But after asking an employee we found them all clustered in one area. Nothing in the High Limit area. Most machines were multi-denomination, multi-play and included keno as well as VP. Denominations ran from 5 cents to 2 dollars, higher pay tables at the one and two dollar levels. And now the bad news, we found no full pay machines. The best that I saw were 1 and 2 dollar 9/7 Double Bonus. Below the dollar level it was 9/6. Next best I guess would be the 9/5 JoB, again only at the 1 and 2 dollar level. Our preferred game, Bonus, was the lousy 8/5 with no bonus quads. We saw no progressive machines but our limited visit was not an exhaustive search.

Guess we will have to bone up on Double Bonus if we continue to play there.
