I was quoted: I see no philosophical difference between a casino giving away "$35,000 plus all re-buy entry money goes to the players" and "$40,000 but the casino keeps all the re-buy money." It's just a different way of saying the same thing. It amounts to the same amount of money either way. But phrasing it the first way likely seems fairer to most players. If players like the first phrasing better, it makes sense for casinos to market it that way.
Larry F remarked: Of course the casino would never phrase it the second way. On certain machine banks does the casino say .." payout 99%" or " Casino hold 1 %"?
Except that's exactly what the Palms did this weekend. They had a fixed prize pool and they kept all the re-buy money. Several players were grumbling about it. Now it's been pointed out to them, I suspect the Palms will see the logic of rephrasing. Some things appear obvious once stated, but not-so-obvious beforehand. This is one of those things. We'll know for sure the next time they run one of these promotions. Bob
