I also rented "Losing Ground" from Netflix. Movie shows video poker
gamblers at a local bar. Interestingly one gal hits 4-5s and gets $400 on DDB.
Obviously they needed a gambling consultant when making it. Somewhat a "slice
of life" type movie, and on the depressing side. No name cast, but they
aren't bad actors.
A more upbeat movie about gambling addict is "Let it Ride" with Richard
Dreyfuss playing the horses and having a winning streak. Lots of fun with a good
cast.
Here's another one "Gambling with Souls" 1936. Like Reefer Madness but with
craps.
"Atlantic City" - excellent movie starring Susan Sarandon and Burt Lancaster
as an aging gambler.
"The Cooler" - highly recommended story of a man (William H. Macy) who has
bad luck that can "cool" off hot machines in a casino. Then he falls in love
and his luck changes, but not all for the better.
"Hard Eight" - world-weary card shark Phillip Baker Hall teaches a newcomer
(John C. Reilly) about the game, including a few tips on getting comps.
"Lucky Numbers" - not too good. John Travolta plays a TV weatherman who
plots to rig the lottery.
"The Rounders" - Matt Damon. Student with a penchant for high stakes
gambling.
"High Roller - the Stu Unger Story" - fictionalized account of Poker
champion and gambling addict.
