Re: [vpFREE] Interesting Covid-19 reading.

I've come across 2 very interesting pieces recently.

(1) Google "Chines Batwoman" for an excellent article from Scientific American". The following is a salient quote:

"Although the Wuhan outbreak is the sixth one caused by bat-borne viruses in the past 26 years —the other five being Hendra in 1994, Nipah in 1998, SARS in 2002, MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) in 2012, and Ebola in 2014—

The researchers found that the new coronavirus enters human lung cells using a receptor called angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). The scientists have since been screening for drugs that can block it.

The final conclusion of this article is that there are literally thousands more viruses out there.

(2) Google "Chinese doctor police letter" for a piece from BBC World News.

The first alert was from an opthamologist, Dr. Li Wenziane on Dec 30 2019.

"Four days later he was summoned to the Public Security Bureau where he was told to sign a letter. In the letter he was accused of "making false comments" that had "severely disturbed the social order".
"We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justice - is that understood?" Underneath in Dr Li's handwriting is written: "Yes, I do."

For the first few weeks of January officials in Wuhan were insisting that only those who came into contact with infected animals could catch the virus. No guidance was issued to protect doctors.

Dr. Li contacted the virus and died on Feb 6. It appears that the Chinese authorities had a chance to nip this in the bud, but needlessly wasted three weeks before telling the world about it.
