The plan isn't going to make financial sense for everyone.

The 3 cents per gallon is without doing anything, though. No need to purchase a membership.

If you take advantage of the various FRN partnerships you can save a lot more. I saved 80 cents per gallon a few days ago. It made a big difference. It helps that a number of Shell stations are conveniently located near me. 

3 cents certainly isn't worth going out of your way for, but is 50 cents worth the trip? How about 20 cents?

What if it is typically on your way?
