Ah excellent! It was intended to disturb, sort of. Hopefully not offend.
Let me make my POV perfectly clear.
As a book author and now VP radio personality I'm worried (terrified actually) that I could be promoting negative expectancy and or problem gambling in any way. What is profitable for some and simply fun for others, can be a life ending addiction for many sad individuals.
Therefore it has to be my policy to promote non-recreational professional play, so I can get some sleep at nights. I care far more about not hurting anyone, than I do about taking the popular party line and promoting gambling and my sales.
Gambling can be a incredibly destructive addiction!!! Please don't forget that.
For this reason, I only advocate positive expectancy gambling for the sole purpose of making extra-money or a living.
I think you need to ask yourself, "If you are gambling and making less than you would at your regular job, why are you doing it anyway?"
Except for it's income potential, it is a completely pointless endeavor.
I am also sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but all the reasons why people find gambling "exciting" or "fun" are often the indicators of mental issues. Not always, but very often. This coming not from me, but from the books on gambling addiction that I've read.
The only "good" thing that can happen when one gambles is for one to make money. Therefore, if a person isn't playing to make money, they are wasting their time...and if for some inexplicable reason they enjoy losing, they likely have a problem and should seek help.
Since you aren't out there promoting gambling, you can take the softer line. As a VP guru I have to take the hard-line discourage anything but for-profit-gambling. To do anything else would be in my opinion unethical, considering the possible harm that could come to people with issues.
I hope you understand that this is because I really do care.
My suggestion...if you disagree, just ignore me. It's a very good general policy, just ask Bob:)
