Hi Gang:
Hedy and I changed venues this past weekend in AC but still had some
positive results as we stayed and played on the boardwalk at Showboat and I took
part in the AtLarge Poker Tournament at the Taj next door.
Hedy carried most of the VP load for TeamVee while I spent 18 hours over
two days in the poker room ... and I'm sure glad she did.
After a slow start on Thursday and Friday, Hedy shifted into high gear on
Saturday when she nailed aces in the morning for $800 then added rockets
with a kicker later for a 2K hand pay. That got back most of our losses but
still didn't put us into the winner's circle for the trip. But, thank
goodness, she wasn't done. At about 5:15 Saturday night my cell phone rang while I
was playing cards in the No Limit Hold 'Em event.
I picked up the phone and heard Hedy's joyous voice. "I hit a royal! I hit
a royal," she exclaimed over and over. I jumped out of my seat, moved away
from the table and yelled, "Yes!!"
"Was it for $4,000?" I asked, and was overjoyed when she answered in the
affirmative. We were out of a hole! I relayed the good news to some fellow VP
players playing at nearby tables and we celebrated together.
Hedy had held the Q-K-10 of hearts and got the A-J to complete the royal.
"Take a picture," I told her, "I want to see it." She did and I saw it at
the AtLarge banquet later that night.
Meanwhile, my poker adventure was going well. On Friday, I cashed in the
T.O.C (Limit Hold 'Em, Omaha 8, 7-card Stud) by finishing sixth, taking down
a prize of $461.
Saturday, I again went deep into the tournament but wound up bubbling (the
first 19 got paid and I wound up 22nd), getting knocked out on the same
hand as Llew of the AC list. We both were short-stacked at that point and got
involved in a three-way all-in with the big stack at the table. I had
pocket sixes, Llew pocket 10's and the big stack had pocket jacks, which held
up. Neither of us had much of a choice at that point with the blinds at
$5,000-$10,000.
But, as usual, the whole experience was a lot of fun and I made some new
friends during the two days, as well as re-connecting with other buddies such
as Siona and Llew.
Hedy and I will be back at Harrah's AC this weekend as we gear up for our
trip out West to Reno and Vegas March 22-28. This time I'll try to help Hedy
out on the VP side!
