You will have to file a Wisconsin non-resident return and pay whatever the tax rate is for Wisconsin. (I have never had a WI W2G.)Note: Any W2G from any state is considered income in IL.Important: See next paragraph since if you paid tax in Wisconsin, you can offset it on the IL return.
You will then have to include, with your IL return, an IL-1040CR on which you claim a credit on your IL return, any Wisconsin (or any other state) income tax you paid up to the 3.75%*. If the W2G was from last year then up to 5%. Effectively, if the state tax for Wisconsin is less than IL you will be paying the difference to IL. I am more familiar with IN versus IL as I am an IL resident who is the vpfree2 monitor for the Majestic Star in IN. Since IN rate is 3.4% less exemptions, you pay a little more than 0.35% of your IN W2G to IL!
*The IL legislature might raise this!
Note: I do not practice as a CPA but I do hold a CPA license in IL so I am not a complete idiot on this subject.
