Although you may have heard about these items separately, both of these items were broken to me in the same email. Although I'm disappointed, I do understand Todd Greenberg's reasons for doing this.
1. On the classes, 3 of the 4 of them were going to be the 100% games. These games have no place for a player's card, and so the casino cannot track how much play the classes generate. Since they couldn't track whether the classes were effective or not in terms of bringing in additional players/play, Greenberg saw no reason to have the classes.
2. On the radio show, Richard and I try to ask "interesting" questions --- at least some of them relate to what we think the Palms might not be doing exactly correctly. (For example I'm not a fan of the way they do the weekly drawings these days so there were going to be questions about them.) Since Greenberg reports to a board of directors, there's always the possibility in a "tough" radio interview that some of the board won't like one or more of his answers. This creates a big possible downside for him.
This kind of downside didn't exist for George Maloof or Michael Gaughan when they were on the radio show because for the most part, they didn't report to a board of directors.
For the most part, casino managers do not appear on the show --- by their choice. We'd have tough questions for any of them and they see more downside than upside. The fact that Todd Greenberg from the Palms came closer to this than other casino executives have recently is no reason to feel any less secure at the Palms than you would otherwise.
Like it or not, casinos are not charities and they are all trying to make a buck --- just as the players are.

And now The Palms president has canceled his appearance on Dancer's radio show because he had second thoughts. None of this is making me feel secure as a video poker player at the Palms.
