An electronic device for tracking cards at BJ has been available for almost 30 years. A player would strap this device to his leg and wires would run to the toes where the cards could be entered. It took practice of course but exact analyses and the correct bets and plays were available to the player. It was adjustable to any number of decks and any rule variances. This device was advertised during the mid to late 1980s. It was produced in Chicago. One of Ken Uston's team got caught with one of these at a downtown casino (I think it might have been the Horseshoe.) and to say the least the casino was not happy about it! (Ken Uston talked about this in one of his blackjack books.)

In blackjack, both betting and playing strategy can be altered more accurately based on exactly which cards have been removed from the deck, as opposed to the way most counts estimate the high card / low card excess in the remaining deck -- if there were a way to enter all that data in real time at a real game, which there is not in blackjack. While you COULD theoretically enter every hand into a device for VP, it would sure slow you down and take most of the fun out of the game for most of us, if you had to do so for every single hand.
