Bob,
Biltmore Estate is a lovely place to visit (although pricey).
Wonderful pond to walk around reminds me of Walden Pond (Thoreau), but
with fewer people. Gorgeous flowers. Estate was designed by the guy
who did Central Park in NYC...but probably had more money available to
do the Biltmore Estate.

Smoky Mountains are worth a little visit...the name becomes self-
evident. :-)
But the Rockies of Nevada, California, Utah, etc... are more dynamic.
Glad you enjoyed your visit to North Carolina. I visit every year.

P.S. The long drive to the Outer Banks might be worth it sometime.
North Carolina shrimp are amazing. So fresh & flavorful, and the
spices they use are nice. I buy the shrimp from fish markets (rather
than expensive restaurants), and try the different seasonings (buy
them on the side).
Some people buy $7-15 counter-top stoves (ala Asian cooking, where
each person has a little hot plate in front of them) and cook fish
themselves, rather than pay restaurant prices.
