The Riv play was just one of countless plays Bob puts down in a year's time. I'm sure he has his share of losing plays....and the Riv play had a chance to be one. But I'm also sure that on a yearly basis, Bob does very well--because he is always playing with a mathematical advantage.
I dumped $215 yesterday on my way to hitting a 7/10 at video keno--it was a mathematical 8.5% advantage when I sat down on it. It was the play I wrote about in What Variance Looks Like In The Real World. I'm several thousand dollars ahead at this game. But yesterday I took a hit again. I dutifully wrote the stats down in my notebook, including the 3127 games it took me to snap it off.
I suffer through the losing plays because the winning plays out run them. Roy Cooke, a former Cardplayer colmnist, and Bellagio middle limit holdem player said it best "The recurring sum of net edge times volume equals the earn."
