Although, you have to admit for most players, it's pretty easy to answer:
- Did you cash out a machine with more than you put into it? (Winning or
losing session)
- Did you have more money when you went to bed than you did when you first
walked into the casino that day? (Winning or losing day)
- Are you ahead or behind where you were last year? (Pretty easy to keep
a spreadsheet of this, just keeping track of the previous two items)
For the recreational player, I think we all realize that we're most likely
"down" in terms of lifetime play and will probably stay there.
Anybody who would answer the question of "how are you doing today?" with
something like "I'm still down from that bad streak back in 1998" is just
being hard to get along with.
