[vpFREE] Free sometimes not so free...

We just took one of the 7 Star Experiences to Paris which included a nice
Romantic Spa package for 2, also dinner for $300 at the Eiffel Tower. Only
problem - tips are not included. The Spa package had a value of about
$500, so there was a mandatory 20% gratuity -- $99. Two attendants working
for 2 hours equals $25 per hour for them from tips. Seemed a bit high to me,
and you cannot use your Harrah's Points.

I have an invitation for an upcoming Harrah's Mothers Day event - 2 spa
treatments. Now I am going to check in advance to see if gratuity is included
or not. Nice event, but not worthwhile for me if I have to pay $100 in
mandatory tips.

The dinner at the Eiffel Tower was excellent, but again, tip not included
and not points not useable. At least I expected that one. (And the $300
credit couldn't be used for the tips.)

But it does seem to me that if Harrah's is going to offer a Freebie package
of some sort, their "free" dinner or spa or whatever should include the
gratuities too.

This is reminding me a bit too much of Harrah's new "free" or
"complimentary" cruise certificates, given out at various events or to 7 star people
now. You not only have to pay for gratuities, you have to pay port charges
and other fees, so you usually end up spending $300 or more per person for
your "freebie" (of course airfare isn't included either, but that is more
expected).
