Optimum Video Poker 4.0 was released in May, 2017, and last week I
received the first report of a bug. On some systems, a new player may
start out with a 600 credit deficit. So far, this has been reported only
on Windows 10, but it is not certain whether it is limited to that OS.
This does not affect the accuracy of any analysis or training features;
it only causes the Player History to indicate falsely negative results.
This will, of course, be fixed in the next release, but in the mean time
there is a simple workaround. Immediately after selecting a player ID
for the first time (e.g., the first time you use the program), or after
creating a new player ID, select Player History and click the Clear
History button. From there on there will be no problem. If you have not
encountered this problem, there is no need to do anything.
Many thanks to the customer who reported this, along with a screen
snapshot that helped to track down the cause. Also, apologies to any
user who has been confused by this problem.
In the mean time, I am working on other improvements to the program, and
I'm looking for anyone who is interested in assisting with the
theoretical aspects of calculating the long-term cost of an error. No
special knowledge or skills are needed, but you should be an experienced
advantage player and have some understanding of the math.
